Car Doctor: Tire design probably contributes to road noise in Malibu - The Providence Journal

I love this car but I am disappointed with the road noise. Also what are your thoughts on the ECOTEC engine/transmission with the auto-stop feature, will the starter and battery wear out quicker since the car is always re-starting. The road noise is most likely related to the tire design. If possible see if the dealer has the same model car with a different brand of tire to see if the car is quieter. AAA has tested these systems and found no long term wear and tear on the starter, battery and engine/transmission components. I went to a very well-known foreign car repairer who assured me that if they couldn't find a part they were experts and could make the part for me. After many months spanning over three years and thousands of dollars later, including an accident... I only use the car around town as I cannot drive very far as the engine heat is extremely hot coming through into the car. It certainly sounds like you have been more than tolerant with this repair. The heater control (hot water valve) can be manually shut off and the interior duct can be manually adjusted to keep the cabin. Source: www.providencejournal.com

The Curious Case Of The Cadillac Allante - GM Authority (blog)

You could say the Cadillac Allante was an attempt to distance General Motors’ luxury brand, much like what Cadillac is trying to do today with its move to New York City , exclusive engines and more. But, the Cadillac Allante was certainly not the most business-savvy way to go about positioning Cadillac against the Mercedes-Benz SL and Jaguar XJS, as told by Motoring Research originally. You see, Cadillac decided to team up with Italian-based coach builder, Pininfarina , for an exclusive convertible which shared no components with any other GM branded vehicle. Cadillac had Pininfarina build the bodies of the Allante, paint them, trim them and, finally, install their convertible tops. Pininfarina’s convertible tops were known to leak substantially, and GM pushed the car out to production anyway after identifying the issue, tarnishing the Allante name from the start. Despite improvements each year, the convertible couldn’t truly contest the SL and XJS. Cadillac wanted to sell 6,000 examples each year, but its best selling year saw merely 4,670 units sold in the end. If one still desires one of these unique vehicles today, low mileage examples can still fetch $20,000. I bought a 1988 Cadillac Allante and kept it for 13 years. Source: gmauthority.com

It was also first built at a time when emissions regulations strangled the engine, 5-mph bumpers disrupted the flow of the lines in the bodywork and Jaguar’s reliability as a whole was not quite where you’d want it to be. But the XJS was in... Some people aren’t wild about this feature, but fans of the XJS generally consider them to be the car’s most charming design feature. And not only are they charming, but they add to the XJS being one of the more aerodynamic cars of its time, with a lower coefficient of drag than that of the E-Type. The front fascia on the car is quite different from that of the XJ. This was important because Jaguar also had the XJ Coupe at the time, and Jaguar wanted it to be easy to tell the two apart. The XJ Coupe was later dropped from the lineup, presumably because it was pointless to keep building both cars. And even when Jaguar decided to offer wood trim options in later versions of the car, the interior still looked great.
