Car Doctor: Tire design probably contributes to road noise in Malibu - The Providence Journal
I love this car but I am disappointed with the road noise. Also what are your thoughts on the ECOTEC engine/transmission with the auto-stop feature, will the starter and battery wear out quicker since the car is always re-starting. The road noise is most likely related to the tire design. If possible see if the dealer has the same model car with a different brand of tire to see if the car is quieter. AAA has tested these systems and found no long term wear and tear on the starter, battery and engine/transmission components. I went to a very well-known foreign car repairer who assured me that if they couldn't find a part they were experts and could make the part for me. After many months spanning over three years and thousands of dollars later, including an accident... I only use the car around town as I cannot drive very far as the engine heat is extremely hot coming through into the car. It certainly sounds like you have been more than tolerant with this repair. The heater control (hot water valve) can be manually shut off and the interior duct can be manually adjusted to keep the cabin. Source: www.providencejournal.com
