Hull man crashed dad's Jaguar X-Type and fled from police - Hull Daily Mail

A MAN took his dad's Jaguar without permission before being chased by the police, crashing into a fence and fleeing the scene. Steve Charlton, of 32nd Avenue, north Hull, admitted taking the car despite having no licence or necessary insurance. At Hull Magistrates' Court , presiding magistrate Fiona Harding said the 28-year-old should have known better. Charlton took the keys of his dad's red Jaguar X-Type to "pop to the shop", knowing he would not be given permission to drive it. An off-duty policeman noticed the car while he was at the shop but took no action. It was only when Charlton sped away down Hall Road, in north Hull, that the officer decided to follow him in an unmarked car. Luke Yarris, defending, said: "Charlton did not think it was a police car and that made him panic and speed away. Charlton then attempted a U-turn, which PC Warren unsuccessfully tried to block with his car, and tried to flee in the opposite direction. He pleaded guilty to four offences at Hull Magistrates yesterday, including aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence or insurance and failure to stop after an accident.
