CHEYENNE — A motorist helped arrest a suspect after joining the pursuit and then failing to stop in time to avoid crashing into the door of a deputy’s vehicle. Marvin Soul, 56, will not face charges for his efforts to assist Laramie County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Yocum, who was alone in his pursuit of a speeding Dodge Durango that appeared to have intentionally sideswiped a stopped vehicle. Linda Gesell said that’s when Soul joined the high-speed pursuit, which is never encouraged. The pursued vehicle eventually slid off the road and an 18-year-old Hillsdale man exited. — A hiker missing for nine days in California's Sierra Nevada with broken legs and forced to endure freezing temperatures at night said Tuesday that she regretted her decision to leave her group of backpackers. Miyuki Harwood released a one-page letter from her hospital bed, saying that she shouldn't have attempted to return to her base camp alone as it was getting dark. After the fall, Harwood took off her boots and stayed in place overnight. "The next morning I realized that I could not stand up with either leg," said the 62-year-old Folsom woman. Harwood was nearing the end of an eight-day backpacking trip with the Sierra Club when she was injured. Harwood described how she crawled for two days to a stream for drinking water. Harwood could see search helicopters above, and eight days after being hurt, she heard rescuers' voices. The next day, Harwood said she again heard them and blew her whistle. Authorities released Harwood's letter and video clips of her sister-in-law Barb Hartwig of Minnesota, who spoke for the recovering woman. Hartwig said Harwood is a widow of 10 years yet independent. Harwood underwent one surgery and expects more in a long recovery. "She does not like to be in the limelight," Hartwig said. Source: tucson.com

A merger between Lawrenceville’s Gwinnett Medical Center and Northside Hospital is being negotiated. Northside Hospital CEO Bob Quattrocchi and Gwinnett Medical Center CEO Phil Wolfe released statements saying they are targeting early 2016 as a potential closing date for the deal. Northside operates hospitals in Canton and Cumming as well as its flagship hospital in Sandy Springs, which it says delivers more babies than any other U. S. hospital and performs the most surgeries in Georgia. Gwinnett Medical operates hospitals in Lawrenceville and Duluth. The two organizations will begin conducting due diligence and planning activities, and if a final definitive agreement is reached, the proposed transaction will be submitted to the State of Georgia Office of the Attorney General for review and... WellStar has begun talks to buy Tenet Healthcare’s five hospitals in metro Atlanta after earlier abandoning a proposed deal with Emory Healthcare.
