Deadly standoff suspect had history of assault, weapons convictions - Monitor

Lopez had assaulted his 35-year-old wife and 13-year-old daughter shortly before officers arrived about 3:45 p. m. , said police Lt. Oscar Treviño. Lopez then locked himself inside his bedroom with a rifle and threatened to kill himself during a three-hour standoff, authorities said. Court records show that Lopez was in a similar situation with police after he punched his girlfriend in the face inside a McAllen home on July 31, 2002. The 28-year-old woman fled to a neighbor’s home, where she called police and told them Lopez... Police evacuated a two-block radius around the home in the 1900 block of South 33rd Street. Rodriguez and three other officers entered the home about 9:30 a. m. and located a man and a female inside one of the bedrooms. Lopez later walked out of the home with his hands up and surrendered to police, who found cocaine on him. Inside the home, police also found a handgun magazine with six. No weapon was discovered in the home and Lopez was only charged and convicted for assault, a Class A misdemeanor. She first played with the Ybarra family band at age 6, accompanying her family in various places. >> The next band Ybarra joined was her brother’s — Pedro Ybarra y Los Chamacones — when she was a teenager. Due to Ruiz’s insistence, the releases went under the brand of “Eva Ybarra y su conjunto,” and a side note, “accompanied by Pedro Ybarra. >> Other recordings she did were for the labels Hacienda Records out of Corpus Christi and Rounder Records in the 1990s. On March 14, 1993, millions of people were recovering from what has been dubbed both the "Storm of the Century" and the "Superstorm of 1993. " It remains one of the most powerful storms on record and left a trail of destruction over a huge area... -Myrtle Beach, SC recorded a wind gust of 90 mph. -Key West, FL recorded a 109 mph wind gust at the Dry Tortugas. -Fire Island, NY recorded a wind gust to 89 mph. -Asheville, NC set a single storm record with 18" of snow. -Birmingham, AL set a single storm record with 13" of snow. -50 to 60 foot waves were generated by the storm and sank the freighter "Gold Bond Conveyor" near Cape Sable Island just after it left Halifax.
