Political newcomer Dr. Ambrosio “Amos” Hernandez defeated Mayor Pro Tem Adan Farias by only 182 votes — 51. 3 percent of the 6,656 ballots cast, according to preliminary results released by the city. In the end, the preliminary final results showed Pharr Forward won three of the four City Commission seats Saturday evening. And though Saturday’s razor-thin margins appeared to be a defeat for incumbent candidate slate Pharr First, it retains the four-seat majority on the commission. Mario Bracamontes, principal at Buell Central High School, defeated Dr. Ramiro Caballero, by 73 votes — 50. 5 percent of the 6,589 ballots in the race. “Nothing’s changed,” said Bracamontes, who said he plans on receiving his doctorate to serve as a superintendent next May. Valley View schoolteacher Eleazar Guajardo defeated Place 1 Commissioner Arturo Cortez by only 14 votes — 50. 1 percent of the 6,544 ballots cast. “Whether it’s one or 14 or whatever votes I won by, it was the decision of the voters,” Guajardo said. “And I’m very confident that’s the way it’s going to stay (once official results are in). ”. HIDTA officer accused of drug trafficking pleads guilty - Monitor

Hector Salinas-Hinojosa, of Roma, was also charged with conspiring with Peña and pleaded not guilty in May, according to court records. Peña and Salinas-Hinojosa conspired to hand over a falsified police report to an undercover officer they thought was a cocaine trafficker and who told them he needed help stealing the majority of a 22-pound load of cocaine he was holding for drug... The duo agreed to assist the undercover agent April 9 by providing a police report that would make it look as if the cocaine had been seized by HIDTA. Peña was arrested by federal agents April 18, and immediately was terminated from his position, Police Chief Noe Castillo had said. “It’s always bad when one of our own gets arrested,” Castillo said previously, adding that he was surprised by Peña’s arrest since he came across as a quiet individual with no other officers having any “issues” with him. Federal agents found almost $21,000 in cash, some in marked bills, and cocaine in his bedroom and patrol car, according to court testimony from Homeland Security Investigation agents who raided Peña’s home in Rio Grande City.
