American motoring icons are usually muscle cars, but there’s a bigger and better offering from Uncle Sam that’s just about to re-launch in Australia - the one and only Ford F-Series truck, the world’s largest-selling SUV. The big Ford F-250 units – they weigh 3. 4 tonnes each and are powered by a 6. 7-litre turbo diesel – are about to hit the streets thanks to a Queensland firm. With 70 staff, Performax has been in the US conversion market for 25 years with Chevrolet Corvette and large US utes or pickups. However the booming ute market market has seen an opportunity via the big Ford – with Ford Australia no longer importing F-Series trucks – to bring in a vehicle that will appeal to a small segment of the market that needs a large towing vehicle... The F-250 is rated to 4. 5 tonnes but can tow up to 7. 5 tonnes with air brakes and appropriate towing equipment. 2015 Ford F-250 Review - CarAdvice

Despite the popularity of utility and truck-based vehicles in Australia, we’ve historically missed out on the heavy hitters in the pick-up truck range that buyers in the US can access so easily. There have been exceptions, with the most recent being the Ford F-250 offered by the blue oval brand a decade ago. Even priced up near $90,000 for a dual-cab, it still sold like hotcakes… Where low volume importers have brought vehicles in to convert over the past decade or so, they have usually been prohibitively expensive. Thanks to Gympie-based Performax International, the days of Australians missing out on Ford ’s finest – and largest – utility vehicles in any significant number are over. Somewhat ironically, I’ve spent the past week-and-a-half behind the wheel of a Ford Ranger XLT as part of our upcoming towing comparison test. But if the current crop of dual-cabs available aren’t quite big enough, there’s the Ford F-250 Lariat: a realistic option for buyers needing extra space or serious towing ability. All F-250 models sold by Performax will be dual-cab, style-side models, but it plans to add variations to the range starting with the extra-cab, which offers less back seat space but a longer tray.   For sale is a 1990 F250 XLT Lariat, it has a 5.8 engine with a 5-speed transmission. it has some limited rust over the rear wheel wells. It has some steering issues and the slave cylinder leaks. there wear on the carpet of the seat but otherwise the interior is intact.
