ALPINA has a knack for making the BMWs that BMW should have made but didn’t. The current B3 Touring and XD3 are examples of go-fast BMWs that didn’t exist until the wonderful madmen at ALPINA thought them up. I think it’s time for those same wonderful madmen get to work on a new project, a new BMW, one they’ve never worked... The BMW i8. The i8 is a perfect car for ALPINA to sink its teeth into (though, I’m not sure what it would called – iB8 or Bi8. ). It’s got everything, it’s fast, great looking, luxurious and economical. Knowing the kind of work ALPINA does, I’m assuming it’d keep a similar powertrain, but either up the power on the 1. 5 liter three-cylinder or swap it for a BMW 2. 0 liter, if the packaging allows. The i8’s interior is already a fabulous place to be, but the addition of LAVALINA leather and ALPINA’s hand stitched trim, it would look even better. ALPINA interiors have always been a step up from BMW interiors, which is saying a lot as BMW interiors aren’t exactly Soviet prison cells. Also, I think ALPINA’s blue and green color scheme would work really well with the futuristic and eco-minded interior of the i8. I think it would be a genuinely beautiful interior, one to rival the best in the business. ALPINA is known for making certain BMWs that BMW should have made in the first place, so it’s not out of the question to think that an ALPINA tuned i8 could exist in the future. Decent chassis and a great lineup of engines make the 7 a blast to hustle and a joy to cruise the freeway in. With the Alpina B7, you just turn that up a notch or two. That's hilarious, because with 540-hp and almost as many torques, this thing will generate enough forward momentum to force slower traffic into the right lane as if by magnetic force -- and then you've got this massive purple thing just screaming... ” It became impossible to maintain highway speed, so I pulled over with the car shuddering and bucking beneath me and I turned it off. I waited a few minutes and turned the car back on. All was right with the world. I thought so. I thought this thing weighed almost as much as a Chevrolet Tahoe. Driving it before looking at the specs, it feels like it. That's not a complaint, just an observation. I like the way the car looks, especially the wheels, though I could probably live without the rear-deck spoiler. I love this honkin' V8. Combined with the silky eight-speed auto, the powertrain is silky like a turbine with all 538 lb-ft of torque coming on smoothly with imperceptible shifts. 2015 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe - Car and Driver

The B6’s 540-hp, 4. 4-liter twin-turbo V-8 is down 20 horsepower to the base M6’s, but the Alpina-modified engine makes 38 more lb-ft of torque and is fitted with new pistons, new turbochargers, and larger intercoolers. It’s basically the same engine that gives the existing Alpina B7 its full head of steam. In the B6, Alpina cites a 0-to-60 time of 3. 7 seconds—we concur—and unlike BMW-badged products, this car isn’t saddled with a governor. An indicated 180 mph is easily attained even in traffic, and stability at those speeds is superb, thanks to the copious aero pieces affixed by Alpina, which are said to achieve nearly zero lift. The chin spoiler incorporates a brake-cooling NACA duct underneath, and additional frontal cooling inlets help the B6 hit its terminal velocity without breaking a sweat. The silence is as golden as the inlaid Alpina emblems in the exclusive myrtle-wood cabin trim. Reddish in hue, the wood makes an already handsome environment even more so. The instrument panel and much of the cabin are wrapped in hide punctuated by Alpina’s special contrasting stitching. cars will have to make do with BMW’s factory extended-leather option. Alpina covered the floor in the rear-seat area with pony hide for one customer, but the standard-issue appointments are so delectable that we’d find it hard to justify ponying up any more money.
