I heard that comment a few times this week after reporting on Blaine Lederer, an employee at Northern Concrete Pipe in Bay City who celebrated his 50th year on the job. For his years of loyal service, the company awarded him a 1965 Ford F-100 pickup — a model from the year he started at the manufacturer. Two other employees who were celebrating 46 years with the company were awarded $10,000 checks to be used for a vacation. Those checks were supposed to come six years earlier, but a slow economy prevented that from happening at the time. The Washabaugh family, which has owned Northern Concrete Pipe for more than 50 years, kept their promise to honor those employees. Coobie: Good to hear there is still a company left that appreciates its employees. Arthguiness: Not only do they know how to treat their employees, but they've been in business for over 50 years. He also received a TV-VCR combo one year. I asked my mom, who has worked at Bronners Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth since 2008, what the world's largest Christmas store does for an employee who hits the 50-year mark. Fairchild, 68 years, of Monroe, Mich. Born in Monroe, Jim was the son of Francis E. “Ed” and Violet M. “Vi” (Stihler) Fairchild. He attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1965 graduate of Monroe High School. On July 10, 1999, Jim married his beloved wife, the former Karen A. Thompson, in Fargo, North Dakota. Jim worked for Ford Motor Co. at the Monroe plant for 22 years. He retired in 1992. Jim was a member of the U. A. W. Local 723 in Monroe, where he served on the house and recreation committee. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge #884 in Monroe. A true outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and hunting for, and collecting, arrowheads. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Karen. his father, Francis “Ed” Fairchild of Monroe. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S.
