Wilton McGhee looked up at the generator chugging away on top of his dark blue, polka-dotted hybrid of an ice cream truck. “It's going to be hot enough today that if we run the air conditioning and the freezers at the same time, we're going to trip a breaker all day,” McGhee said. A hot one, to be sure, but before McGhee headed out to run his truck at a 2 mph crawl through Janesville's Fourth Ward neighborhood, he dished out a $3, chocolate-topped ice cream taco wrapped in a sugary waffle cone. McGhee and his truck, a 1991 UMC Aeromate box truck with sliding vinyl windows on the side, deliver the goods for one of the newest and stone-coldest trends in Janesville cottage industry. His truck, named Em's Treats after his girlfriend and business partner Emily Breidenbach, is one of three mobile ice cream truck vendors licensed to operate by the city this year under an ordinance amendment the city council approved in 2014. Throwback Thursday: Racing in the streets of Watkins Glen - Racer

He traded in his Duesenberg for an MG TC so he could join the Sports Car Club of America, and began reading everything he could about the fledgling sport. Using the 6. 6-mile course that Argetsinger laid out on the rug of his family living room, 23 cars competed in a four-lap Junior Prix and an eight-lap Grand Prix, which were the first sports car races in the United States following World War II.... While the accident halted the race – and ended street racing in Watkins Glen – Argetsinger’s dream was not diminished. The circuit hosted its first professional race, for NASCAR’s premier series, in 1957, and attracted international stars with Formula Libre races in 1959 and 1960. Argetsinger realized his ultimate dream in 1961 with the United States Grand Prix,... and the International Speedway Corporation – began running the circuit in 1984, and will again serve as gracious host of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen next weekend. — The USGA announced three sites for the U. S. Open on Wednesday, including a return to Pinehurst No. 2. It effectively alternates the U. S. Open between the East Coast and prime-time TV of California for at least a seven-year stretch. “Pinehurst has elevated itself to one of the great and historic places in golf in this country,” said Thomas J. O’Toole Jr. , USGA president. Open will go to The Country Club in 2022, the course outside Boston that was the scene of perhaps the most important golf championship in American history. Curtis Strange won the last U. S. Open in Brookline in 1988. The last big event there was the Ryder Cup in 1999 that featured the great American comeback under captain Ben Crenshaw. The newcomer is an old classic — the North Course at Los Angeles Country Club, which gets the U. S. Open in 2023. It will be the first time the U. S. Open is held in Los Angeles since Ben Hogan won at Riviera in 1948. LA North is on the other side... And it will be great to take the U. S. Open to the second-largest city in the country. Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina gets its fourth U. S. Open in 2024 as it becomes a regular part of the U. S. Open rotation.
