Border Patrol weekend activity nets pot seizures - Deming Headlight

LAS CRUCES, N. M. >. >. U. S. Border Patrol agents assigned to New Mexico stations in the El Paso Sector seized almost $183,000 in marijuana, recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a convicted child molester over the weekend period. Late Friday night, agents assigned to the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Interstate 10 west of Las Cruces were alerted to a possible stolen vehicle. A records check revealed the 2011 Nissan Titan truck that the subjects were in was reported stolen from Truth or Consequences, N. M. New Mexico State Police took custody of both individuals in addition to the truck. On Sunday morning, Lordsburg agents using night vision technology near the Arizona border located and detained three subjects carrying large backpacks. The backpacks contained 145 pounds of marijuana, valued at $116,240. The three subjects were identified as: Tomas Silva-Flaco, 24, of Mexico, Vidal Gonzalez-Armendariz, 18, of Mexico and Oracio Ramos-Palmas, 24, of Mexico. Later that day, Santa Teresa agents apprehended eight subjects who entered illegally into the United States in the desert near Sunland Park, N. M. Woman walking dog dies after being struck by truck in Harpswell - WCSH-TV

HARPSWELL, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A woman was killed just a few steps away from her home in a car crash Wednesday morning in Harpswell. Police said 75-year-old Rita Douglas was walking her dog along Harpswell Island Road Wednesday morning when a 2012 Nissan Titan pickup truck ran into them. Police said the driver of the truck is 16-year-old Isabella Slocum, also from Harpswell. Traffic along the road near the intersection of Mountain Road was down to one lane while emergency crews were on scene. Farmer said Douglas was born in Germany and met her husband, Robert Douglas, while he was based there in the military. Police have not said whether Slocum will face charges. Source: www.wcsh6.com

Google started testing its self-driving technology with the Toyota Prius on freeways in California way back in 2009. But the technology is much older, as Google itself points out on its website. In the mid 2000s, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) organized the Grand Challenges where teams gathered to compete with self-driving vehicles.
