2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Crash Tests: US Agencies Weigh In - Washington Post

The federal government has released crash-test results and ratings for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class . And while the results are good, the C-Class misses the top five-star overall rating. In frontal impact the C-Class earns four stars out of five—due to a four-star performance for passenger-side protection in the 35-mph, fixed-barrier test. And in side impact, the C-Class earns five stars, but that result is tempered with a four-star result in the rear-seat category. That’s because both four-star results pertain to tests where a ‘small-sized adult female’ dummy is used (the federal tests use both that and an average-sized adult-male dummy). The 2015 C-Class already earns top ‘good’ results in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but it hasn’t yet been tested in the more stringent small-overlap frontal test. The IIHS says that it meets ‘basic’ front crash prevention standards, whether with these models’ standard Collision Prevention Assist Plus system or when optioned with the Pre-Safe Brake system, as part of the Driver Assistance Package. Optioned as such, you can get Attention Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Parking Assist, various collision-prevention systems, and the Distronic Plus active cruise-control system with Steering Assist. Meet what might possibly be the only example of a camouflaged 1984 Maserati Quattroporte, the ultimate under-the-radar luxury four-door. A four-door Italian sedan may not be "bizarre" by definition, but we think the color scheme and relative rarity of this particular Maserati qualify it for our weekly series. Built from 1979 to 1990, the third generation Quattroporte was a return to form for the storied Italian marque. After a brief stint as a V-6-engined, front-wheel-drive sedan under Citroen ownership, the Quattroporte returned to true form as a V-8, rear-wheel-drive luxury limousine under ownership from supercar-maker De Tomaso. Say hello to the granddaddy of all power hard top convertibles, the 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner. Released in 1957, the Skyliner was the only retractable hard top car in the world at the time, and the first to employ a power-operated roof mechanism. Understandably, customers were skeptical about the reliability of such a machine, but the Skyliner was actually quite dependable when it came to raising the roof (and lowering it, too). All Skyliners came standard with the 292-ci V-8 with a 2-barrel carburetor, making around 200-horsepower. the Skyliner was meant for long, easy cruises on the American open road. The two-tone paint job is about as 50s as you can get, and it's impossible not to stop and stare when one passes you by. With a total overall length of around 17. 5-feet, it's also impossible to miss, the perfect example of the glory days of...
