Car goes off Highway 1 near Vandenberg Air Force Base - Lompoc Record

A 7-year-old girl sustained moderate injuries Thursday when a 20-year-old driver drifted down an embankment and overturned her vehicle near Vandenberg Air Force Base. Nancy Santos was driving a 1995 Nissan 200SX when for unknown reasons she allowed the vehicle to drift to the left onto the center median, according to the California Highway Patrol. Santos then over-corrected to the right, causing the vehicle to drift across the northbound lanes onto the right shoulder and then down the dirt embankment, the CHP said. There was also a 1-year-old in the vehicle, who did not sustain any injuries. As the Nana of the 1 year old who lives 500 plus miles away, I'd like to thank those involved in caring for and ensuring Noah's safety to the hospital where his parents were able to safely reunite with him.   "I have owned this car for almost 15 years. I bought it used in 1999 with approximately 14k miles on it, and have put on approximately 190k miles since. Over time, I've gotten the entire exhaust system replaced (the catalytic converter located in the exhaust manifold disintegrated over time due to a loose distributor cap causing the engine to misfire for an extended period of time, NOT a typical repair), the rear oil seal replaced, three sets of tires, two complete tune ups, routine fluid changes, brakes, both side CV boots replaced twice and the windshield replaced. Also, it has a timing chain that never needs replaced. The car has been in numerous fender benders, deer collisions & other accidents but is still running like a Swiss watch. It corners decently and gets great gas mileage (about 36 mi./gal.). Not very powerful or fast, but somewhat quick. It is an above average commuter car and is extraordinarily reliable. A+"

  Review

  I bought this car in August 2012 with 96,000km's, and I had it until September 2014 at 123,000km's when it was stolen and totalled. This is one of the best first cars ever. Not enough power to kill anyone but I was able to get my first speeding ticket in this beauty. She handles with ease, transports my friends no problems at all, and can transport all my camping gear. I wish she never got stolen but time to move on sadly enough.

  Best Features

  Love the gas mileage, the power, the comfort, pretty much everything. Power everything worked great.

  Worst Features

  I wish I bought a car with a manual transmission. The auto is nice and all for traffic but it ain't fun. Also my AC wasn't working in my second year of ownership but oh well it's a 19 year old vehicle. Keyless entry would be nice to have.
