Das passiert selbst einem gestandenen Motorjournalisten, der in seinem langen Berufsleben schon Ferrari, Lamborghini oder Bentley gefahren hat, wahrscheinlich nur ein Mal im Leben: Ein Auto fahren zu können, das mehr als eine Million Kilometer... Exakt sind es 1. 080. 080 Kilometer, die ein holländischer Futtermittel-Verteter in gut 20 Jahren zusammengefahren hat, bis Lexus Deutschland das Auto kaufte. Das besitzt noch den Ur-Motor und das erste Automatikgetriebe. Es handelt sich um einen Lexus LS 400, Baujahr 1993 in Metallicbraun, der damaligen Modefarbe. Spitze 250 km/h, und in nur 8,5 Sekunden ist das 1780 Kilogramm schwere Schiff auf Tempo 100. Erstaunliche Werte für damalige Verhältnisse wie vor allem der extrem geringe Luftwiderstandsbeiwert von 0,29. Erstaunlich auch der hohe Preis von... Dennoch wurden 1990, im ersten Jahr von Lexus in Deutschland, 192 Stück vom LS 400 verkauft. Seidenweiches Oldi-Schiff Fast ehrfürchtig erfolgt der Schlüsseldreh, und unmerklich springt der V8 an. Im damaligen Werbefilm stand auf der Motorhaube des LS 400 eine Pyramide aus Champagnergläsern. Der edle Saft schwappte nicht über, als der Motor lief. Die letzten 22 Jahre sind zwar nicht ganz spurlos an ihm vorbeigegangen, aber richtig abgerockt sieht er nicht aus – vielmehr in Würde gealtert. Und die Polsterung erinnert eher an Omas Kanapee als an Autositze, die wenigstens ein Mindestmaß an Seitenhalt bieten sollten. Doch trotz der angesetzten Patina macht das Fünf-Meter-Schiff Eindruck, und ich freue mich schon auf das Grummeln des 4,0-Liter V8, der unter der langgestreckten Haube steckt. Klimaautomatik, Memory-Funktion für die Vordersitze, Radio mit Digital-Anzeige für die Sendernamen und CD-Player. Von der elektrischen Gurthöhenverstellung vorn und der elektrischen Sitzheizung vorn und hinten ganz zu schweigen. In der Original-Pressemitteilung von damals heißt es, das erklärte Ziel sei es gewesen, „ein Luxus-Klasse-Auto zu entwickeln, das in der Summe seiner Eigenschaften eine neue Dimension im automobilen Spitzen-Club darstellt“. Einen Startknopf sucht man im Lexus LS400 natürlich vergebens, was das Auto nicht unsympathischer macht. Eine Drehung am Schlüssel, und der Motor springt an. Aber irgendwas stimmt nicht: das Aggregat mit seinen acht Töpfen grummelt nicht. Denn genau mit diesen Eigenschaften warb Lexus zum Marktstart in Deutschland anno 1990. The Hyundai Genesis sedan just doesn't live up to lofty expectations - Business Insider

Rather than make you read the whole article to find out, I’ll give you the tl. dr version right here—it’s because this $50,000 Genesis doesn’t feel that different from a $32,000 Sonata Limited. And as both cars feel similar inside and out, why spend the additional $20K for the 2015 Hyundai Genesis. Sure, this Genesis features aluminum trim, puddle lamps that display the Genesis logo, and a powerful infotainment system, but it lacks the premium feel its $50,000 price tag demands. The leather in the Genesis feels identical to that of the Sonata, for example, as does the cheap-looking (and cheap-feeling) plastic. But since both cars are tuned with a nod to efficiency, the actual drive doesn’t feel that much different. Power delivery is smooth, but given the Genesis’ sporting pretensions, I want a more forceful shove. And despite Hyundai’s claims of a sport-tuned chassis, this Genesis isn’t a car that encourages a spirited romp through the bends. The steering lacks the directness I need from a sports car, and overall it just feels too big and heavy for corner carving.
