What’s better than a rear-wheel drive luxury performance sport convertible. A rear-wheel drive luxury performance sport coupe that can transform itself into a convertible in 20 seconds. That’s what the Lexus IS 350C can do, and it’s as easy as pushing a switch. This week we are test driving the 2014 IS 350C and it comes with the F-Sport Package that makes this hardtop/convertible a fun performer. What’s new for 2014. The interior trim has been revised for the optional F-Sport package. Lexus IS 350 Convertible options This 2014 IS 350C came with the optional F-Sport Package ($2,550) that includes a sport-tuned suspension, F-Sport 18-inch wheels with dark super chrome finish. F-Sport steering wheel and F Sport heated and ventilated front seats. Lexus says this is a four-seater, but back seat passengers will find it too cramped for much more than a short trip. The IS 350C’s roof The Lexus IS 350C is more like a luxury sports coupe with a convenient convertible option. The hardtop is a three-panel aluminum roof that lowers with a push of a switch inside. Then for 2006, the second-generation IS launched with an updated look and a slew of V-style engines. The car came in IS 250 , a high-performance variant powered by a 5. 0-liter V-8, in 2007. A clean sweep came across the IS lineup in 2008, along with the addition of a hardtop convertible. Still utilizing the second-generation platform and styling, the 2014 IS 350C soldiers on as the rest IS lineup gets a whole new look. I just recently spent a week behind the wheel of Lexus’ 2014 IS 350C, complete with the F Sport package. If you’re familiar with the second-generation IS sedan, then the familiarity will continue with the 2014 IS 350C. It retains the looks from the previous IS generation, despite the rest of the IS lineup moving to a new look. However, looks are subjective and can be easily looked past when blasting down the road with wind-swept hair. Up front, the car reaps the full benefits of having the F Sport package selected. A more aggressive front bumper comes complete with ventilation ducts for the front brakes and deeply-mounted fog lights just forward of the 225/40R18 front rubber (255-series tires live out back). When the hardtop is up, the Lexus is for all intents and purposes a 2-door coupe. With the push of a button, though, the big top tucks away into the trunk, turning this Lexus into a convertible ready for sun and the requisite fun. * As a coupe, the Lexus IS C feels like, well, a Lexus. Compared to the Infiniti Q60 hardtop convertible, the Lexus feels more buttoned-up. * Where the base IS 250C uses a 204-horsepower 2. 5-liter V6 that provides only adequate acceleration and passing power, the IS 350C ups the ante significantly with a 306-horsepower, 3. 5-liter V6. This engine gives and gives, providing blasts... * Though the 2014 IS C lacks the freshness of its sedan siblings (see the reason below), it still offers plenty of creature comforts such as climate-controlled seats and a Mark Levinson audiophile entertainment system that make driving a pleasure. * The biggest tradeoff when using the Lexus IS C as a convertible is its lack of cargo space.
