After reviewing the Land Rover LR3's substantial mass in the specifications, you'd probably assume the 4. 0-liter V-6-powered model was a gutless wonder. It turns out the Ford-sourced bent-six churns out a fair amount of torque throughout the rev range and hauls the big, boxy LR3 about its business with relative ease. But it seemed adequate doing the kinds of things one sees Land Rover owners do. You know, go shopping, or out to eat, or to a movie, that kind of thing. But in the event one actually takes it to the rough, the V-6 LR3 will do all the things the dedicated Land Rover guys in their green wellies spent so much time ensuring it would. In fact, just before we got this LR3, we were treated to a taste of the Land Rover Experience - an off-road training school at Eastnor Castle in England near the Welsh border. A Land Rover LR3, even with "just" the V-6 engine - will go through muck that would stop a camel. Since the V-6 model still gets all the trick Land Rover stuff - an independent air-spring suspension all around and the Terrain Response selector that programs virtually all the vehicle's dynamic systems according to the environment selected by... The benchmark 60 mph comes up in 10. 8 seconds, more than two seconds slower than the 4. 4-liter V-8-powered model, and the quarter-mile is. Source: www.caranddriver.com

But the cabin electronics feel like they've been grudgingly added in, with Land Rover designers never really buying into anything other than the classic metal dashboard from pre-1971 Land Rover Defenders. The LR3 is available in three different trim levels, starting at a base model with a V-6 engine for $39,000. moving up to the V-8 SE, which starts at $45,700. and ending with the fully loaded V-8 powered HSE, for $53,700. The HSE, which we had as... And while we expected to be impressed by the feature set, especially when it showed up under the Land Rover badge, we were very disappointed with the poor implementation. Land Rover's Terrain Control system works as an essential part of the LR3's off-road gear. Like millions of other tech-challenged people I have been waiting for Apple to crash through the layers of buttons on a TV remote…waiting and waiting and waiting. If anyone could bring one-click simplicity to the original home screen it should be the people in Cupertino who bring clarity of function and design to our computers, tablets and cellphones, right. It just shouldn’t involve three separate remotes to play a Blu-Ray movie, stream Netflix or record stuff for future viewing—three separate remotes each with its own strange hierarchy of keys and mystifying symbols. That’s why I was alarmed to see that Apple has been busy hiring lots of talent from the automotive industry with the idea of producing an iCar. The aesthetic master of everything Apple (he was the eye of Steve Jobs’s Apple) is its chief designer, Sir Jony Ive. If the iCar is a serious project perhaps these cars give a clue to what design references will go into it—or, perhaps not. an Aston Martin DB9 of the breed that the directors of Bond movies like to progressively demolish during a car chase and which Jony himself virtually demolished in a shunt on Interstate 280 in California. and a Land Rover LR3 should off-road challenges arise.
