Whether it’s finishing up a big report at school, trying to get done with a major build at work, or just hustling to get your brand-new wheeling rig ready for the first trail ride, it’s likely there will come a point when you’ll be under the gun... This year’s UA truck started as a 2WD Dodge diesel airplane tug used as a military tractor to pull airplanes around. The goal was a big simple truck. We wanted good parts, but not a lot of computers to get mad at us when we swapped bigger or smaller tires and definitely no robot transmission that decides when to shift. The recipe for adventure included a 12-valve Cummins diesel, manual NV4500 transmission, Magnum 205 Doubler transfer case from Offroad Design, Dynatrac ProRock 80 axles front and rear, Fox coilover shocks up front, BDS leaf springs out back, and... The Tug-Truck needed a bed to haul stuff. We’ve used flatbeds in the past for wheeling rigs, and bobbed beds, and even beds with camper shells, but for gear and junk it’s pretty hard to beat just a good big bed. the other 51 weeks of the year this truck may be called on to haul trash, goats, rock, groceries, lumber, 4x4 parts, coolers, a canoe, and who knows what else. The bed is 8 feet by about 5 feet 5 inches inside, and 6 feet wide outside, so it’s about normal longbed size. Source: www.fourwheeler.com

1948 Jeep CJ-2A - BenAddiction - Four Wheeler Network

“This is my hot rod,” he states when describing his Jeep, and it shows in all of the custom touches and miles of polished aluminum. Ben built his own frame out of 2x4, 0. 120-wall box tubing using tricks he learned from Jim Arbuckle. Like a late-model CJ-5, the frame is splayed out to be wider in the rear, which adds stability while allowing for adequate tire clearance up front. As an added benefit, it allowed Ben to fit a bigger custom aluminum fuel cell between the rear framerails for his thirsty V-8. Four inches were added to the front of the frame as well to make room for the V-8 engine. The Jeep had independent front suspension with torsion bars when Ben purchased it, but that setup bound up whenever the suspension cycled and the front wheels were turned. A four-bolt Saginaw steering box is bolted to the inside of the frame and is connected to the front axle through a custom 7075 aluminum drag link and tie rod. The independent suspension is based off of ’49 Mercury and ’60s Corvette parts and provides unmatched stability with no wheel hop when carving the dunes. The 1958 Apache is also likely to lead a charmed life in a collection, lest truck fans get incensed that miles are being put on it.
