Consolidated Fire board OKs purchase of new vehicles - The Union of Grass Valley

The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District Board of Directors on Thursday unanimously approved the purchase of additional utility vehicles totaling around $73,000. Deputy Chief Jerry Funk presented the purchase of two 2015 Ford F250 Crew Cab... The vehicles will include new all terrain tires, reverse cameras, tow command brake controllers, and vehicle alarms with glass breakage. In other business, the board unanimously approved fire staff to enter into an agreement with Sacramento Valley Limited Partnership, Verizon Wireless to lease a portion of property at 14400 Golden Star Road in Grass Valley. The board also authorized to invite a bid for asphalt repair projects for fire stations 84 and 88. Board members also reviewed the district’s 2015-16 fiscal year budget and five-year projection Thursday, with Finance Manager Jeff Van Groningen... According to documents, as of July 31 the district had a total cash balance of $755,371. Documents also state that the district will see a more than $1 million increase in wage and benefit expenditures from 2015-16 to 2019-20. Revenues for the... Do I have to change or inspect my car's fluid? - Boston.com

I own a 2014 Ford Fusion hybrid, during recent standard maintenance visits at two different dealerships I was told that my car was overdue for the 30,000 mile transmission fluid and filter change. Each time I rechecked my owner’s manual and found on the 30,000 page that I only needed to “inspect” the fluid, it said nothing of changing it. I hope you can clear up the confusion on which is the correct action (to change or not to change). Certainly changing the transmission fluid can’t hurt, but unless the fluid shows characteristics of overheating, it isn’t necessary. Even if you use the severe service schedule provided by Ford, the transmission fluid is not scheduled for a change until 110,000 miles. I believe this is strictly a recommendation by the servicing dealers and not one of Ford Motor Company. The tires still have good tread, but I think it may be time to change them. Do you have any recommendation for a good all-season tire that wears well and does not break the bank. Regarding tire, some tires can be noisier than others, some provide better traction and still others can help improve fuel economy. Sunday morning accident south of Woodland claims resident - Daily Democrat

A 63-year-old Woodland woman died at the scene of a car crash Sunday morning while two other people received minor or no injuries and a third was said to be in intensive care. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Sheri Lynn Reed, 63, by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office on Monday morning. The accident happened at 9:20 a. m. Sunday one mile east of Plainfield Elementary School at the intersection of county roads 98 and 25A, about two miles south of Woodland. Reed was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus westbound on County Road 25A, according to the California Highway Patrol. She had stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection and was turning north onto CR98 into the path of Nelson H. Johansen, 84, of Woodland, who was driving his 2002 Ford F-250 4x4 north on CR98 at around 55 mph. Johansen couldn’t pull over in time and ran into the driver’s side of the Taurus. Passengers in the Taurus were identified as Parker Kurtz, 84, of Woodland, who was reported to be in intensive care and Gurveer Deol, 24, of Woodland, who declined transportation. At the scene, the roof of the Taurus had been removed, but it was unclear at the time whether firefighters used the Jaws of Life to peel away the roof and assist the passengers, or if the impact took it off.
