Ford is taking a carefully calculated gamble on the use of aluminum. With gas prices presently lower--nobody knows how long that condition will remain--it is even more of a gamble for Ford's alloy strategy. GM and RAM both build good trucks and a lot of buyers will decide based on availability and price. Ford is on a roll and the new Raptor can't get here fast enough. Ford is becoming the performance king. Raptor, GT, GT350, Focus RS, Focus ST, Fiesta ST and Ford announced 9 new performance models by 2020 wow. No one else has this kind of line up. Oh and Ford just got done sweeping Daytona Speed Weeks. No surprise from Ford on the anticipated sales numbers, anyone should have seen this coming. In other news Ram temporarily closes truck plants to make the transition to giant chrome tailgate lettering. Ram and GM have been taking advantage of the F-150 transitioning its plants to the aluminum and they have both been aggressive in pricing and availability. Dramatic video captured in May by a Montana wildlife official shows a mother black bear with cubs running toward a knot of camera-clicking tourists as the animals try to cross a bridge in Yellowstone National Park. No one is hurt, but at one point the adult bear rushes full-tilt toward a group of people standing at one end of the bridge. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman Bob Gibson witnessed the encounter and said some visitors ignored or were slow to heed a park official’s commands to leave the bridge. “The bear was the only one doing anything right there,” Gibson said. Each year, Yellowstone sees about 1,000 so-called bear jams, in which grizzly or black bear sightings prompt dozens and sometimes hundreds of tourists to pull over their vehicles hoping for a photo. Ideally, the visitors on the bridge would have stayed in their vehicles, said Kerry Gunther, the park’s bear management program leader. Once the bears started approaching, the tourists worsened the situation by running and screaming, Gunther said. They instead should have grouped together on one side of the bridge and allowed the bears to pass. Yellowstone has never had a bear-caused injury among groups of three or more people, he said. Chevrolet Silverado Commercials Fail to Downplay the Aluminum Ford F-150 - Video - autoevolution

When Ford introduced the thirteenth-generation F-150 for the 2015MY, the Blue Oval proved that aluminum is the right material for the pickup truck of the future. Chevy tries to convince us that aluminum is BS when it comes to towing stuff, but the golden bowtie fails to do so with three tongue-in-cheek commercials with a clear in-your-face-F-150 message. To boot, repairing an aluminum panel is insignificantly more costly than a steel panel, but this isn’t a detail to shout about. In three commercials titled “Cages,” “New Superhero: Almighty Aluminum Man,” and “Silverado vs. F-150 Repair Costs and Time,” the golden bowtie makes a direct attack on the F-150's aluminum-laden construction. In a nutshell, the first commercial sees a bearded man talk with ten men about what type of cage they prefer as a safety precaution against a grizzly bear: one that’s made of steel or one that’s made of aluminum. Other than a wicked shot of a grizzly bear in the bed of a Silverado, a YouTube user had this to say about the Silverado vs. F-150 ad: “As a materials scientist the pseudo-science in this makes me cringe. We have to give it to Chevy that Iron Man or Man of Steel sounds way better than Aluminum Man, but how is the comparison relevant when it comes to the Silverado. Source: www.autoevolution.com
