First Drive: 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty - MotorTrend Magazine

Getting ready for the drive to Los Angeles from Phoenix after Ford's introduction of the new Super Duty, we saw a running 2011 F-250 sitting in front of the hotel where we had been staying for the event. For a moment, we wondered if Ford's claims of a quieter engine been false. For example, the new grille uses two thick, solid horizontal bars (not unlike those seen on the F-250 Super Chief concept) in black or chrome with a huge 13-inch-wide Ford blue oval dead center. There are two engines available in the new Ford, neither of which is carryover. The base engine, a 6. 2-liter V-8, replaces the three-valve 5. 4-liter V-8 offered through 2010. The new engine puts out 385 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque, up 85 and 40 respectively, while it's said to improve fuel economy by 15 percent. This size/weight category isn't rated by the EPA for fuel economy, so those numbers are based on Ford's estimates. We spent a short stretch on the road with the 6. 2-powered Super Duty, and you can definitely feel the increase in power with the new engine. Source: www.motortrend.com

Jakaitis was the ECHL’s MVP and Goalie of the Year during the regular season, setting a league mark with a shutout streak that lasted more than 319 minutes. But the number of minutes appeared to catch up with the veteran goalie at times during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Jakaitis had been pulled from the net two times during the playoffs, including Tuesday night in Game 2 against the Allen Americans after giving up three goals on just 13 shots. In Game 3, Jakaitis left little doubt why he was the MVP and goalie of the year. Andrew Rowe scored two goals and Wayne Simpson added a goal and two assists, but it was Jakaitis’ 39 saves that keyed South Carolina’s 4-1 win over the Allen Americans in Game 3 of the Kelly Cup Finals on Wednesday night at the Allen Event Center... Game 4 will be held Sunday at 7:05 p. m. at the North Charleston Coliseum with Game 5 on Tuesday, also at 7:05 p. m. Jakaitis, 31, has looked almost human at times during the playoffs, but rebounded from Game 2’s 5-2 loss with one of his best...
