  • EcoBoost V6 engine - Full-Race Motorsports

F-150 Articles | Fusion Articles All about Ford's new family of turbocharged engines What is EcoBoost?

EcoBoost is Ford Motor Company's top sub-brand. As significant as VTEC was for Honda in the 90's, EcoBoost is poised to do even more for Ford Motor Company. This marks the first time a major auto company leveraged the identity of a turbocharged engine in such a strategic and effective way. EcoBoost improves fuel economy by as much as 20 percent but costs far less than the several thousand dollar increase hybrids and diesels demand. Merging split personalities 'Eco'-friendly and turbo-'Boost', EcoBoost engines offer a unique combination of torque, horsepower, fuel economy, performance, utility, durability and reliability. Launched in 2011 to international acclaim, these highly refined small displacement turbocharged *ECO*boost engines have fuel efficiency MPG gains while cruising around town or at light throttle on a highway - but when pulling a load up a steep hill or stomping on the gas pedal eco*BOOST* engines spool the turbo instantly with powerful torque for controlled acceleration with unrivaled towing capacity.

The rising costs of gas along with United States Congress' CAFE laws means all automakers must produce vehicles with incrementally greater fuel efficiency every year. MPG may be king, but no self-respecting auto enthusiast wants to drive slow and boring vehicles! When Ford set out to improve the fuel economy of their cars and trucks, they knew customers wanted to have their cake and eat it too. The most effective solution: Turbo + Direct Injection + Variable Camshafts. Ford engineers went all-in on this initiative resulting in the incredibly versatile, exceptionally strong EcoBoost turbocharged engines.

2010 marked Ford's public introduction of EcoBoost and 2011 was the year F-150 received its most significant and extensive powertrain overhaul in the truck's storied history: the flagship engine was now a 3.5L V6! Built in Brook Park, Ohio at Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1, with turbos from BorgWarner (Asheville, NC); the EcoBoost V6 is rated at 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, with 90 percent of that torque available from 1700 - 5000 rpm, enabling the 2011+ F-150 to have up to 20 percent greater fuel economy compared to the previous year 2010 F-150. Ford was correct in their estimates that early-adopters would gravitate to the EcoBoost because of its combination of power, towing capacity and fuel economy. By the end of 2011, Ford produced 128,000 vehicles equipped with EcoBoost. For 2012 Ford tripled production of EcoBoost engines. By the end of 2012, Ford will have nine EcoBoost models available. By 2014 90% of Ford vehicles will be available with EcoBoost!

    Ford's 6-cylinder EcoBoost Ford's 4-cylinder EcoBoost "F-150 EcoBoost Torture-Testing Program to Ensure Long-Term Reliability"

To ensure the highest quality, most reliable engines, Ford engineers studied the warranty history of the outgoing engines and developed testing procedures based on the real-world driving experiences from current F-150 drivers. Big power is great for bragging rights but Ford needed to prove EcoBoost engines were up to the task, long-term, before truck enthusiasts would embrace this new power plant. Engine validation consisted of 1.5-million hours of computer analysis, 13,000 hours of engine dyno testing with 5000 hours at full boost and 2500 of those hours at 5000+ rpm. Finally, 100,000 hours of vehicle testing was logged as engineers devised tests that pushed these engines harder and longer than any customer, in any climate, could ever possibly do. Prototype EcoBoost engines underwent a wide range of tests with all components undergoing testing equivalent of 150,000 miles.

F-150 EcoBoost Test Engine A production 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine, #448AA, was randomly selected from the assembly line at Ford's Cleveland engine plant. This engine had no idea it was in store for 163k miles of brutal endurance testing. #448AA was Shipped to dynamometer cell 36B in Ford's Dearborn, MI engine lab and run for 300 hours, this engine's first experience was a rapid simulation of 150,000 customer miles, including thermal-shock runs in which the engine was cooled to -20F and then heated to +235F, repeatedly. The engine was shipped to Ford's Kansas City truck plant where it was installed in an F-150 4X4 Super-Crew. After assembly the truck was driven to Nygaard Timber in Astoria, Oregon, where it dragged a total of 110,000 pounds of logs across the ground (requiring all 420 ft-lb TQ) Next they drove the truck to Miami Speedway, and hooked it up to a 2-car open trailer carrying two NASCAR Ford Fusions (a total of 11,300 pounds) and run continuously around the oval track for 24 hours (average speed: 82 mph, distance covered: 1,607 miles) After this they took the truck to Davis Dam in Arizona, where it beat out the 5.3-liter Chevy Silverado V-8 AND the Ram 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 each pulling 9,000 pounds up a 6 percent grade in an uphill towing contest. The 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine was removed and then installed in a 7,100-pound F-150 Baja race truck. After 1,200 miles of practice they raced the truck 1060 miles in the SCORE Baja 1000, the toughest off-road race in North America, finishing 1st overall in the Stock Engine class. The truck's owner said the engine's fuel economy was so good compared with his previous V8 he skipped 2 planned fuel stops during the grueling trip from Ensenada to La Paz. After winning in Baja they sent the engine back to dynamometer cell 36B and dyno-tested one final time. It generated 364HP and 420ft-lb TQ, only one horsepower less than its HP rating and exactly Ford's given torque rating. Lastly, for the final episode of the F-150 EcoBoost torture test, Ford Motor Co did a complete engine tear-down and inspection of engine #448AA (never been serviced or previously inspected) in front of thousands at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. The engine parts were laid out on three huge tables so that when the tear-down was complete, the engineers and the audience could take a closer look. EcoBoost Engine #448AA Teardown Observations Valve lash was 0.17 mm on the intakes and 0.38 mm on the exhausts Crankshaft end play was measured at 0.12 mm Timing chain did not stretch, EcoBoost V-6 tensioner used only 3 out of 10 teeth Visual inspection of the turbos, heads, pistons/rings, rod bearings and cylinder walls were within spec The main bearings showed cosmetic wear, nothing excessive Next >>>

  • 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost V6 - Car and Driver

Major updates to the F-150, already the bestseller in one of the largest market segments, represent a serious gamble for Ford. Pickup-truck buyers, after all, notoriously favor the tried-and-true. With high-tech features like twin turbochargers and direct injection, the 2011 F-150’s EcoBoost V-6 might as well be a hood-mounted tofu dispenser.

    Changing the Game

But if there’s one thing truck loyalists like more than the familiar, it’s horsepower and torque, and the EcoBoost whips up a satisfactory 365 hp and 420 lb-ft on regular unleaded. It’s one of four new F-150 powerplants for 2011: a 302-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 is standard; the anemic 310-hp, 5.4-liter V-8 gets chucked for gutsy 5.0- and 6.2-liter V-8s producing 360 and 411 hp. (Click here to see how the new engine lineup compares with those from Chevy and Dodge.) The 6.2-liter “Boss” V-8 is reserved for special high-end F-150s—such as the SVT Raptor—making the EcoBoost V-6 the top-of-the-line engine for volume F-150 buyers.

That means those who want the strongest available mill in a regular Ford truck will have to forsake the V-8 rumble that has defined cab-and-a-box workhorses for decades. Ford understands that traditionalists will take some convincing, and it doesn’t help matters that the EcoBoost will command $1750 more than the 3.7-liter V-6 and $750 more than the 5.0-liter V-8. Regardless of output figures, V-6s don’t make the same chicken-fried music as V-8s.

    Deceptively Powerful

Although its fitment in the F-150 is the twin-turbo V-6’s first rear-drive application—it’s also the first turbocharged V-6 in a full-size pickup—it is offered in several other Ford and Lincoln models, where it makes up to 365 hp and 350 lb-ft. Those output figures propel the 4300-pound Taurus SHO to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. For the F-series, the engine is revised with new turbos and intercoolers, as well as new intake and exhaust manifolds, various revised internals, and new electronic controls for the dual variable valve timing. The EcoBoost, as with all other F-150 engines, is mated solely to Ford’s updated 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission with manumatic shifting; the blown engine is available in nearly every body configuration with either rear- or four-wheel drive.

If you overlook its rather flat exhaust note, it would be easy to mistake the EcoBoost V-6 for a burly V-8. We drove several F-150 models—as well as competitive trucks—both unladen and towing trailers weighing up to 6700 pounds, and the EcoBoost felt noticeably strong and never seemed to run out of breath. Ford says 90 percent of the engine’s torque is on tap from 1700 rpm to 5000. We observed that the new turbos spool up quickly and emit only a slight whistle under load.

Acceleration is almost diesel-like in its relentlessness, and the truck has more than enough in reserve for passing maneuvers, even with a trailer behind. Capable of tugging 11,300 pounds or carrying 3060 in the bed—both best in the segment—the F-150 EcoBoost managed Ford’s trailers with ease, chugging along smoothly in top gear on uphill highway sections.

    Little Else New

All F-150s except those with the 6.2-liter V-8 get electrically assisted power steering for 2011, which is another first for a full-size truck. The setup is more efficient than a hydraulic setup and makes for easy low-speed maneuvering, but it offers nil in the way of feel. With little else new for 2011, the F-150 otherwise drives as it did before, which is to say solid and refined but not quite as handily as the Ram 1500, which won our last pickup-truck comparison test in 2009.

The 2011 truck’s interior is much the same as the 2010’s; the biggest update is the addition of an available 4.2-inch information screen in the revised gauge cluster. First seen on the 2011 F-series Super Duty, the new readout features multiple displays for the trip computer and various functions, such as fuel economy, vehicle settings, and trailer-towing details. An off-road setting tracks the truck’s vertical and lateral movements. Like learning a new smartphone, it’s rather overwhelming at first but intuitive and informative once you master the system.

In general, MSRPs increase by about two grand from 2010’s, although exact figures get confusing given the numerous configurations of the six trims available with the EcoBoost. The least expensive EcoBoost variant is a $25,440 regular-cab XL with rear-wheel drive and an eight-foot bed; the priciest is a four-wheel-drive Platinum SuperCrew with a 6.5-foot bed, which starts at $48,770. As with all pickups, options can swell the bottom line considerably.

Although the turbocharged V-6 has the potential to deliver better mileage than a V-8, we’ve noticed in other EcoBoost Fords that their much-touted efficiency increase pretty much disappears when driving with any sort of haste. But that’s less important here than in other segments, since, in truth, most pickup owners accept crappy fuel economy as a part of the deal. Given that, and having now experienced the power and performance of the EcoBoost F-150, we think most potential customers will feel right at home in the driver’s seat.

  • All-New Ford F-150 2.7-Liter EcoBoost V6 Engine Delivers ...

Tougher, lighter 2015 Ford F-150 welcomes two new engines to its four-engine lineup, providing choices to meet almost any customer need – from hauling tools to towing trailers High-output 2.7-liter EcoBoost® with standard Auto Start-Stop broadens engine lineup by providing mid-range V8-like towing capability of 8,500 pounds, payload of 2,250 pounds, 325 horsepower, 375 lb.-ft. of torque Standard 3.5-liter V6 engine with twin independent variable camshaft timing delivers impressive power and efficiency with towing of 7,600 pounds that can’t be beat, 1,910 pounds of payload, 283 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque Use of high-strength steel and high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy plus smart engineering saves up to 700 pounds, improving power-to-weight ratio and allowing for gains in towing, performance and efficiency

With its new 2.7-liter EcoBoost® with standard Auto Start-Stop and new 3.5-liter V6 with twin independent variable camshaft timing, the 2015 Ford F-150 resets the bar in light-duty pickup truck performance, capability and efficiency.

“The 2015 F-150 is the most capable F-150 yet, while shedding up to 700 pounds,” said Bob Fascetti, vice president, Powertrain Engineering. “These two new V6 engines – the 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost and normally aspirated 3.5-liter Ti-VCT – set a new standard for Ford for capability and efficiency.”

2.7-liter EcoBoost powerThe high-output, twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 features an entirely new design that delivers power and performance in a strong, smart package. The engine produces 325 horsepower and 375 lb.-ft. of torque – improving the power-to-weight ratio of the 2015 truck by 15 percent over the 2014 5.0-liter V8-equipped F-150 with similar torque output, thanks to vehicle light-weighting.

The 2.7-liter EcoBoost 4x2 has a maximum payload rating of 2,250 pounds and maximum tow rating of 8,500 pounds, ideal for meeting mid-range capability needs.

Boosting 2.7-liter EcoBoost fuel efficiency is the debut of standard Auto Start-Stop technology for F-150. This technology, specially tuned for truck customers, shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop. When the brake is released, the engine restarts quickly. Auto Start-Stop helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions when the truck is stopped and the engine is off. The technology is off when towing or in four-wheel-drive mode.

The 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine also features Ford’s first use of a compacted graphite iron cylinder block in a gasoline engine, the same material used in Ford’s 6.7-liter Power Stroke® turbo diesel V8 in Super Duty trucks. The composite CGI/aluminum cylinder block saves weight while providing strength where it’s needed most for durability.

Advanced technology, power and efficiency combine to create an engine for F-150 that boasts more than twice the horsepower, torque and towing capability of the Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup truck with identical displacement 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine.

Ford testing shows the 2.7-liter EcoBoost also outperforming Ram 1500 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3-liter V8 while towing a 7,000-pound enclosed trailer up Davis Dam in Arizona. This is the same grade the Society of Automotive Engineers uses for its J2807 towing testing standards, which the 2015 Ford F-150 will follow.

3.5-liter V6 tuned for responsive powerThanks to vehicle weight savings, the standard 3.5-liter V6 with Ti-VCT offers a 5 percent improvement in power-to-weight ratio over the larger 3.7-liter V6 in the 2014 F-150, with better fuel efficiency and performance.

The 3.5-liter V6 produces 283 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine has a maximum payload of 1,910 pounds and a maximum tow rating of 7,600 pounds – unsurpassed for standard V6 light-duty pickup trucks.

Designed for impressive power and durability, the 24-valve 3.5-liter V6 features a valvetrain with direct-acting polished mechanical buckets with twin independent variable camshaft timing for impressive torque across a wide rpm range. Six-bolt main bearing caps, a fully counterweighted forged steel crankshaft and cast exhaust manifolds are designed for heavy-duty operation.

Both the upper and lower intake manifolds of the 3.5-liter V6 are tuned for responsive power, and both the intake manifolds and cam covers are composite-formed to reduce weight. The die-cast aluminum cylinder block features bay-to-bay breathing to reduce internal pumping losses, while a deep-sump oil pan contributes to extended oil-change intervals.

Advanced materials save weightExtensive research by Ford engineers led to the use of more advanced materials on the 2015 F-150 than found in previous trucks. Military-grade aluminum alloys make the new truck’s body lighter, stronger and more resistant to dents.

Overall, F-150 is up to 700 pounds lighter – helping the truck tow and haul more, accelerate and stop faster, and operate more efficiently than the previous F-150. High-strength steel in the frame and high-strength aluminum alloy throughout the body produce an inherently stiffer truck with greater dent and ding resistance. The aluminum upper body sits on a fully boxed ladder frame with more high-strength steel than ever to make it stronger yet lighter.

In addition to the new V6 engines, the all-new 2015 F-150 offers the proven 3.5-liter EcoBoost and the 5.0-liter V8 with Ti-VCT, providing a comprehensive, capable and efficient engine lineup to meet the specific needs of Ford truck customers.

  • Ford F-150 Reviews - Ford F-150 Price, Photos, and Specs ...

    From the May 2015 issue

We were skeptics of Ford’s aluminum-truck-bed-and-body gambit, but in a February-issue comparison test, a $60,000-plus F-150 SuperCrew with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 dispatched the mostly steel four-door competition from Chevrolet, Ram, and Toyota. But there’s a new, even smaller engine on the F-150’s order sheet, a 2.7-liter V-6. How, we wondered, would it fare under the hood of the mostly nonferrous Ford?

Positioned in price between the base 282-hp V-6 and the 385-hp 5.0-liter V-8, the iron-and-aluminum-block 2.7 makes 325 horsepower with the help of two turbos. The $795 upcharge for it over the naturally aspirated base six costs less than the F-150’s optional sunroof ($995). A V-8 runs $1595, and the top-hole 3.5-liter turbo V-6 is $1995.

Top: A very truckish-looking truck driving in a pleasantly carlike manner but getting decidedly trucklike fuel economy.

The 2.7 hustles this truck to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 14.3. That’s 0.1 second slower to 60 and 0.1 second quicker in the quarter than the 365-hp 3.5-liter turbo V-6 that won the comparo. Consider it money well spent if you’re into holeshots, in the SuperCab at least.

At 4874 pounds, this model is more than 700 pounds lighter than that crew cab we keep referring to. We haven’t tested an extended-cab half-ton truck in a while, but we have tested the sub-half-ton Chevrolet Colorado. In crew-cab form, the 305-hp Colorado is more than 300 pounds lighter and 1.2 seconds slower in the quarter-mile.

The lack of full rear doors reminded us why the larger trucks have become so popular: We had to move the passenger seat up to comfortably fit an adult in the back seat. It’s not as tight as we remember extended cabs to be, but still no comparison to the limolike splendor of having four real doors.

Taking mass out of any truck while maintaining its payload capacity poses a challenge for chassis engineers. This F-150 carries up to 1626 pounds of people and stuff, which represents a 36-percent increase in mass over its unladen self. The rated payload capacity is 1740 pounds, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 6500 pounds. With such a large loaded-to-unloaded ratio, we expected the ride to be compromised, but it isn’t. Potholes and speed bumps induce no head toss, and the steering is uncharacteristically accurate for a truck. In fact, all of this F-150’s on-road behavior is carlike by truck standards.

Unfortunately, the 2.7 EcoBoost’s EPA fuel-economy ratings of 18 mpg city and 23 mpg highway don’t translate to the real world. We averaged 16 mpg over more than 1000 miles of mixed winter driving, and we didn’t load the bed with car parts, tow a trailer, or disable the overly aggressive stop-start engine function.

We love this F-150’s carlike demeanor and performance. But despite being quick off the line, the V-6s don’t sound or feel like truck engines, and that’s something we miss. For about $43,000, or the cost of this F-150, one could get a similarly equipped V-8 from Chevy or Ram. Show us someone who isn’t a sucker for a V-8 and we’ll show you a very nontraditional truck buyer.

Ford currently produces a 1.0-litre turbocharged in-line three cylinder engine for the EcoBoost family developed at Ford's Dunton Technical Centre in the UK. Production started in April 2012. The 1.0 comes initially in two versions: 74 kW (101 PS; 99 hp) and 88 to 92 kW (120 to 125 PS; 118 to 123 hp). The more powerful version delivers a maximum of 170 N·m (125 lb·ft) from 1,400–4,500 rpm and 200 N·m (148 lb·ft) on overboost, which makes for a broad torque curve when compared to a naturally aspirated gasoline engine. A 140 PS (138hp) version has also been released in the Fiesta Red Edition and Black Edition, with 155 lb ft (210Nm) of Torque. The engine block is cast iron instead of aluminum for up to 50% faster warm-up, at the expense of additional weight.[12][13] Due to natural vibrations of a 3-cylinder design, the flywheel as with any other engine of similar configuration has been weighted properly to ensure smooth running, without the use of energy sapping balance shafts. The engine also features an internal timing belt, bathed in the engine oil, for long life and greater efficiency and reduced noise. The exhaust manifold is cast into the cylinder head, reducing warm up times and therefore further aiding efficiency. All this is packaged in an engine block the size of an A4 sheet of paper.[14] With the introduction of face lifted 2013 Ford Fiesta, Ford introduced naturally aspirated version of 1.0 Fox engine. There are two versions producing 65 hp and 80 hp, and both engines use Direct Injection and Ti-VCT like the turbocharged versions. Start-stop technology is also available.

The engines are produced in Cologne, Germany and Craiova, Romania with production to later expand in Chongqing, China. Production is expected to be 700,000–1,500,000 units per year. The engine is available in Ford Focus, the Ford Focus-based C-MAX and Grand C-MAX, and the Fiesta-based B-Max.[15]

Ford has announced that the 1.0L Ecoboost engine will be available for the American market starting with the all-new 2014 Ford Fiesta Sedan and Hatchback. It was announced at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, when the 2014 Fiesta was introduced. The 123 hp version is now available in the North American market Focus starting with model year 2015.

There are four EcoBoost I4 engines in production. A 1.5L downsized version of the 1.6L, the 1.6L which replaces larger-displacement, naturally-aspirated I4 engines in Ford vehicles, a 2.0L which replaces small-displacement, naturally-aspirated V6 engines, and a 2.3L used in high performance applications. All four engines are turbocharged and direct injected. The production engine family was officially announced at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.[16]

    1.5 litre [edit]

A 1.5L version of the EcoBoost engine family was first unveiled in the 2014 Ford Fusion as a downsized version of the 1.6L EcoBoost engine.[17] The downsized displacement is a result of Chinese vehicle tax regulations which tax vehicles with engine displacements of 1.5L or less at lower rates. The 1.5L EcoBoost adds new technology compared to the 1.6L on which it is based, including an integrated exhaust manifold and a computer-controlled water pump clutch to decrease warm up time. In the 2014 Fusion, the engine produces 181 hp (135 kW; 184 PS)and 185-lb ft .

The engine is produced at the Craiova Engine Plant in Craiova, Romania.

    1.6 litre[edit]

    A 1.6 L version was first unveiled in the 2009 Lincoln C Concept. The engine is rated at 180 hp (134 kW; 182 PS) and 180 lb·ft (244.0 N·m).[18]

The European market version of the 1.6L provides 150 hp (112 kW; 152 PS) although a 160 hp (119 kW; 162 PS) version is used in the Ford Mondeo.

The 1.6L Ecoboost engine is raced in the British Formula Ford Championship. The units have replaced the original N/A 1.6 Duratec units, which in turn replaced the 1.8L Zetec-engined cars. The engine has also been used for the past couple of seasons in the WRC in the Ford Fiesta.

Ford has recalled certain Ford Escapes equipped with this engine due to the potential for them to catch fire after overheating.[19]

The 1.6L EcoBoost engine is produced at the Ford Bridgend Engine Plant in Bridgend, Wales.

The 2015 Ford F-150 has the option of a 2.7 liter Ecoboost engine. It is supposed to deliver 325 hp (242 kW) and 375 lb·ft (508 N·m).[34] The engine is built at the Lima Ford Engine Plant.[35] Ford has invested half a billion dollars in the Lima plant for the new engine. Ford also states that the new engine will bring 300 jobs to Allen County,[36] however transfers from other plants make the actual number hard to pin down.

    Applications[edit] 325 hp (242 kW) @ 5750 rpm, 375 lb·ft (508 N·m) @ 3000 rpm 335 hp (250 kW), 380 lb·ft (515 N·m)[37] Rated at 315 hp (235 kW), 350 lb·ft (475 N·m) 3.5 litre [edit]

The first Ford Vehicle to feature this engine was the 2007 Lincoln MKR Concept under the name TwinForce.[38] The engine was designed to deliver power and torque output equivalent to a typical 6.0 L or larger displacement V8 while achieving at least 15% better fuel efficiency and reduced greenhouse emissions. In the MKR the concept TwinForce engine was rated 415 hp (309 kW) and 400 lb·ft (542 N·m) of torque, as well as run on E85 fuel.[39] When the same prototype engine reappeared in the Lincoln MKT concept in 2008 North American International Auto Show, the name was changed to EcoBoost. Official EcoBoost production began on May 19, 2009 at Ford's Cleveland Engine Plant No. 1.

The production engines use the Duratec 35 V6 engine block. The fuel charging and delivery systems can attain high fuel pressures of up to 2150 PSI, necessary for efficient operation of the direct fuel injection system. It uses two BorgWarner turbochargers which can spin at up to 170,000 rpm and provide 12 PSI of boost. The turbos are set up in a twin-turbo configuration. The engine can consume up to 25% more air over the naturally aspirated counterpart. Through the use of direct injection, the engine needs only regular-grade petrol to run. The EcoBoost V6 was first available as an engine option for 2010 Lincoln MKS, followed by 2010 Ford Flex, 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, and 2010 Lincoln MKT.[40] The fuel charging and delivery systems were co-developed with Robert Bosch GmbH.[41]

In 2009 Ford modified an experimental 3.5 V6 EcoBoost engine with both E85 direct injection and petrol indirect fuel injection, which achieved a BMEP (brake mean effective pressure) of 395 psi (27 bar), which translates to approximately 553 pound-feet (750 N·m) of torque and 316 horsepower (236 kW)@3000 rpm (flat torque curve from 1500–3000 rpm).[42]

The next-generation 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 is being produced for the 2017 Ford GT, revealed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January.[51] It is expected to produce over 600 horsepower and over 500 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed semi-automatic transmission. This engine theoretically replaces the 5.4 L Supercharged Modular V8 from the last generation Ford GT which produced 550 horsepower. The GT has been on a 10 year hiatus, and will return in 2016 for the 2017 model year.

Also announced at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show was the 2017 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, which is powered by an all-new 3.5 L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6.[52] This new engine is expected to produce between 450 and 500 horsepower in the Raptor, up from the previous 6.2 L V8's 411. Torque is also expected to higher than the 434 lb-ft produced by the naturally aspirated 6.2 L Boss V8.
