Ford, UAW in talks to revive Ranger sales, output in U.S. - Automotive News

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. is in discussions with the UAW about bringing the Ranger midsize pickup and Bronco SUV back to the U. S. market, according to a Bloomberg report and a person with knowledge of the talks. Ford also is considering production of the Bronco SUV at the plant, Bloomberg reported. Ford filed a trademark application for the Bronco name in February, according to a government filing. The proposal, which would need to be approved by Ford’s board of directors, as well as the union, would give the automaker a smaller and less expensive complement to the F-series that it has lacked since discontinuing the U. S. Ranger in 2011.... As transaction prices for the F-150 have risen, so has the opportunity for a midsize pickup to fit below the F-150 without detracting from it. Ford and Fiat Chrysler's Ram brand have abandoned the midsize pickup market in recent years, leaving it... The short answer is that Quinn saved a good chunk of money by selling her 2004 Toyota 4Runner and relying on uberX, Uber’s cheapest ride-hailing service. Her math shows that she spent $10,281 from August 2013 to August 2014 on the 4Runner when adding in expenses like parking, gas, and insurance. After moving to London for the next year, she relied on Uber and spent $4,655 for 12 months of transportation. Quinn admits that there are “some significant caveats to my comparison,” including the fact that she was in different cities, had a different work schedule, could have used a more fuel-efficient vehicle, and did not factor in her public... I gave up my car over 2 years ago here in Seattle and between Uber, Lyft, bus and Car2Go I never spent more than $400/month in total costs and usually it’s closer to $250. Police Seek Help Identifying Suspected Hit-and-Run Vehicle - FOX40

YUBA CITY —. On June 3 around 9:40 p. m. a white 2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup was involved in an accident with a motorcycle and left the scene. Nathan Ashley Hanks and an unknown female were traveling west on State Route 20 on a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle when an unknown driver going south made a left turn onto State Route 20 from Lytle Road. Hanks’ motorcycle hit the back left side of the truck causing him to lose control. The female passenger died from her injuries and Hanks was transported to the hospital with significant injuries. The vehicle also has “TRD –Toyota Racing Development” emblems on the sides. Source: fox40.com

  "Right after they built this truck, they broke the mold. Literally. It rolled off the line (at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA) in August, 2004, one of the last before Toyota's redesign. Starting with the 2005 models, Tacomas would be taller, wider, longer, pricier -- but not better. Call me Retro, but I was delighted, when I first climbed into this little red rascal, to find I could still buy a new vehicle with manual transmission, manual locks, windows, outside mirrors -- I mean, it was a real DIY truck for a DIY guy. I didn't quibble over the ABS or the power-assisted brakes and steering, all useful, all unavoidable. I did remark, on the test drive, that I could do without the AC. "Yes, and you could find someone else to ride shotgun", my wife replied. Well, it was August. Eleven years and 100K miles later, this truck, which has hardly seen the inside of a garage, still looks great. It still has all its original parts (including brake pads/linings), except for tires, filters and wiper blades. I've had the front end aligned twice, and I did replace the battery after about eight years. The overall mpg has been a very consistent 22-23 miles. A lot of solo cross-country trips have just made me more appreciative of the comfortable -- but not too comfortable -- bucket seat, the cruise control, and the excellent 6-speaker sound system featuring AM/FM, CD player AND cassette tape player, all stock. My one quibble isn't really a complaint, because I knew what I was buying: a 2.7 liter in-line 4-cylinder engine. Pulling a fully-loaded 8-ft. Uhaul trailer across West Virginia on a rainy night, you might wish you had a tad more oomph. Still, it did the job, as it has through years of house moves and miscellaneous hauling in all kinds of weather. I couldn't replace this machine for three times the Blue Book valuation."
