Kevin Hayes had flicked the puck in the general direction of Moore, whose opportunistic shin directed the puck where it would do the most damage. “I knew it was eventually going to get to the net, and a good thing happened,” Moore said, to a crowd of reporters. Moore was standing at his locker, answering unfamiliar questions about being a playoff hero, wearing the Broadway Hat that is awarded by teammates to Ranger MVPs who are usually more renowned. He scored only 10 goals this whole season, and zero in 12 previous playoff games this spring. This time, he was the right man in the right crease. Moore wouldn’t bite when asked if he’d ever scored a bigger goal with his shin. Moore took a year off when something indescribably awful happened, when his wife Katie died of liver cancer back in 2013.
