Colorado State Patrol called to I-76 accidents - Journal Advocate

1 No injuries were reported in a two vehicle accident at 5:15 a. m. on Interstate 76 at mile marker 145. A 2012 Freightliner semi, driven by Chancy Swick, 50, of Ogallala, Neb. , was westbound on I-76 when the left rear trailer tire blew out, causing large pieces of tread to come off into the roadway. A 2012 Hyundai Accent, driven by Taylor Amburgey, 25, of Sedgwick, was also westbound in the left lane and struck the tire debris, causing damage to the left front of the vehicle. 31 William C. Nielsen, 18, of Sterling was cited for failure to yield the right of way after an accident at 7:30 a. m. on Colo. Nielsen, driving a 2005 Dodge Stratus, was leaving a stopped position at a stop sign on eastbound C. R. 6 and turning left onto Colo. The Dodge struck the left axle of the semi with its right front, and spun a quarter-turn clockwise before coming to a stop. The Dodge sustained extreme damage, while the semi had extreme damage to the trailer axle. , Michael F. Dracon, 58, of Julesburg was traveling eastbound in a vehicle pulling a trailer. The vehicle sustained sudden tire failure on its left rear tire and lost control, going into a clockwise spin. Dracon was taken into custody at Sterling Regional MedCenter for possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Source: www.journal-advocate.com
