If you are a serious buyer the following will be worth the read. I purchased the the truck as a family travel trailer tow vehicle in 2015 from my father in-law. He purchased the truck in 2006 W/77k miles from the original owner. from 06 to 2015 the truck had regular maintenance and the transmission was rebuilt and in 2008 at about 100k. We believe the the cause of the transmission failure was due to an exhaust brake the original owner had installed allowing the trans to overheat with no torque converter lock up control. The exhaust brake has sense been removed. When I got it in 2015 the truck had 127k and was still completely stock. The following maintenance, upgrades and repairs listed below were done by me. As a traveling industrial mechanic I have a service truck for day to day use which explains the low miles. This truck was built with reliability as the primary focus and getting up hills faster than 35mph an added benefit. We owned a 30’ bumper pull travel trailer 7,700lbs dry. Last year we sold the travel trailer after we purchased a vintage RV bus. I’m heart broken to sell this truck but it no longer has a use in our family. With the intention to never sell this truck I opted for the best at every opportunity. Most, if not all of the maintenance was done preemptively rather than waiting for failure. Also, all modifications were to Ca SMOG standards. The truck just passed smog from a Star cert station (required) and registration is valid threw August of 2021.
After our first trip at 35mph up the hills, I started researching reliable modifications and differences between the early and late 7.3 engine. First, I replaced the up pipes, the turbo, stand, intake plenums, all boots, clamps, intake, gauges and added a 6 position chip. Shortly thereafter I replaced the HPOP, IPR, exhaust back pressure sensor, glow plugs, relay, injector o-rings, crank position sensor, FPR kit, FRx, CVD, fuel filter and fuel bowl sealing o-rings. These modifications did the...
