I can’t believe I’m typing this sentence, but I’m sitting in the press box at Busch, the “toothbrush” stadium lights illuminating the night, while I write my first column for the Post-Dispatch. I used to read Word Up Magazine, and Bernie Miklasz’s columns in the Post-Dispatch. Sure, we all read Bernie, but I wanted to be Bernie – the irresistible, unmistakable sports voice of St. Louis. When I became sports columnist for The Denver Post, it felt surreal – surreal. – that Bernie and I had the same job. As he’s moved on to a new venture, imagine how I feel now that I have Bernie’s actual job. it was a BMW … no, I’m kidding, and to be honest, I didn’t even get a car until Mizzou — my mom’s maroon Honda station wagon, which was perfect for lugging luggage across I-70 and for not getting dates).
