The tweaks allow owners to fill the fuel tank to its true capacity of 2. 4 gallons, rather than the restricted 1. 9 gallons available to US owners, according to Green Car Reports. The discrepancy is said to involve the fine print in California's requirements for zero-emissions vehicles, disqualifying the i3 if its gasoline range were to exceed its battery range. The extra tank capacity is good for around 20 more miles of driving range between fill-ups once the battery is exhausted. BMW had implemented a similar feature for the US-spec model, following complaints from a Consumer Reports driver , but drivers were not given manual control of the battery-charge hold.
