And Irene is left with her grief, to fight away the pain of losing one of her children and wrestle with the anger that still consumes her a year after Teleka, 30, was found drowned in a small lake in northwestern Indiana. RELATED: The Teleka Patrick case, one year later. The frenzy that surrounded the family in the days after Teleka Patrick's Dec. The family is left to ponder what might have been for Patrick, a brilliant medical student who, despite her many accomplishments, was by many accounts on the brink of a mental breakdown when she disappeared. They also have been comforted, Irene Patrick says, by the cards she receives ever so often from people she has never met, expressing their condolences over the loss of Teleka, as well as admiration for the young doctor. Irene Patrick recalled a woman from Tennessee named Vera who never gives a return address on her envelopes, but rarely misses an opportunity to send a card for a special occasion, whether it be Thanksgiving or Christmas, or even Teleka Patrick's...
