Review: Infiniti M35h hybrid sports saloon - Register

If you’ve got a little over 40 grand lying about and fancy a four-door hybrid sports saloon then Infiniti - the posh bit of Nissan in a relationship similar to that between Lexus and Toyota - would have you know that the latest M35h is not only... After all who wouldn't want a car that can hit 62mph in 5. 5 seconds but returns 41mpg over the combined cycle and all for five grand less than the competing product from BMW. In terms of visual appeal, Jaguar’s XF puts them all in the shade, but you can’t have a hybrid XF so there’s no real point in making that comparison. Under the M35h’s bonnet sits a double overhead camshaft 3. 5-litre 24-valve V6 generating 302bhp and 258lb-ft of torque, and an electric motor good for 67bhp (50kW) and 199lb-ft of torque. Combined output of the V6 and electric motor is 268kW, or 359bhp in old money. As is the case with Toyota and Lexus’ hybrids, the petrol engine uses Atkinson-cycle valve timing to trade some loss in power for improved efficiency. The battery pack, which is tucked away behind the rear seats, is a laminated cell lithium-ion affair with a 1. 4kWh capacity and which borrows its basic design from the Nissan Leaf e-car. More than 13,000 vehicles are affected by a recall issued for Infiniti’s Q50 Hybrid, Q70 Hybrid, and M35 Hybrid vehicles. Infiniti Q50 and Q70 Hybrid owners will be contacted mid-November to arrange a service that will involve reprogramming software. In a message to dealers , Infiniti said: “On some of the affected vehicles, while the vehicle is in the EV mode, an error in the communication between motor inverter and TCM may cause the electric motor to stop running. Infiniti will reprogram the hybrid system inverter to help prevent this from occurring. Infiniti said: “Due to a supplier process issue that has since been corrected, a small number of Q50 and Q70 Hybrid vehicles have a crack in the front of the transmission case. Source: ecomento.com

Infiniti is Nissan's posher, classier sibling. This one is a hybrid: it combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. This is not a car for someone who really gives a damn about the environment, or wants to pay nothing for their tax disc and get into central London for free. The petrol engine is a 3. 5-litre V6 and a powerful beast. this is a luxury performance car to compete with a BMW 5 series or an Audi A6. The electric motor just means it does so slightly more efficiently, less thirstily and flatulently (and with less space for luggage because of the battery) than the... We point the long, curved bonnet north, and the car pretty much drives itself, keeping the right distance from the vehicle in front, beeping if we leave our lane unintentionally, cutting out the petrol engine where possible (at up to 60mph). It's a relaxing motorway cruise, with not much to do apart from look out of the double-glazed windows at the scenery improving and the house prices falling the farther north we go. I'm enjoying the generous leather seats, while gulping in Forest... If I'm paying 45 grand for a car, I want 6 Music. Off the motorway, flicked into sport mode, the car comes alive.
