The cracks that creep along Cruz's dashboard have him keeping an eye on his rearview mirror hoping no one hits him causing his airbag to deploy. "I feel a piece of plastic that is sharp enough would affect that airbag's ability to protect the person its supposed to be protecting," Cruz said. Hundreds of GM drivers feel this way including Rip Munsterman of North Palm Beach who connected with Cruz over this problem on Facebook. "Once it started it was a new occurrence daily of a hairline crack," Munsterman said. A Wisconsin lawsuit alleges GM knows about this defect, and hired a company to see if common cleaning products like Armor All were to blame. "We are the same people who bailed out GM but when we need to be bailed out from a faulty product they gave us they are not helping us," Munsterman said. GM is trying to get the lawsuit thrown out of court. The manufacturer told the NewsChannel 5 Consumer Watchdog this is not a safety issue, and most of the impacted cars are older and out of warranty. According to complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2007 to 2011 cars are most impacted with the Chevy Tahoe being the most complained about truck.
