FOR this weeks blog, let's take a look at Alpina's version of the iconic BMW Z8. Alpina has been tuning various different BMW's for more than 40 years, and this BMW Alpina Roadster V8 was quite a special model for them. The original BMW Z8 finished production in the November of 2002, and it featured a 5. 0-litre V8 engine from the E39 M5 that developed 298kW (400hp) and 500Nm of torque (369 lb-ft of torque). Alpina got hold of the car once production had ended, and they had originally planned to place a V12 up front but unfortunately it wouldn't fit. Alpina claimed their Roadster V8 can launch from 0-100 kilometres per hour in just 5. 0 seconds, only a mere 0. 3 seconds slower than the BMW Z8. Also, the electronically limited top speed was raised from 250 kilometres per hour (155 miles per... As I stated before, this was quite a special car for Alpina. BMW heard about the car and loved the idea, so they ended up ordering 450 cars to sell through dealerships throughout the USA. Das war die Frage, die vor 60 Jahren erst alle automobilbegeisterten Amerikaner und dann die vom Wirtschaftswunder berauschten Deutschen beschäftigte. Ob Porsche 356 Speedster, Mercedes 190 SL oder 300 SL und vor genau 60 Jahren die Achtzylinder-Typen BMW 507 und BMW 503 als erste weißblaue Nachkriegstraumwagen, sie alle wurden vom New Yorker Autohändler Max Hofman initiiert. Umjubelte jüngste Glanzlichter waren dabei der Roadster BMW 507 und der BMW 503 mit Coupé- und Cabrio-Karosserien. Als „weißblaue Diamanten vom Isarstrand“ feierte die Fachpresse die V8-BMW, die mit Preisen von rund 30. 000 Mark ähnlich teuer waren wie ein Siedlungshaus. Es waren vor allem die Formen, mit denen die sportliche Luxusklasse von BMW faszinierte. Diese verdankten sie dem Designer Albrecht Graf Goertz, der sich mit den stilbildenden BMW-Ikonen einen Namen machte, der vorübergehend ähnlich hell strahlte wie die von Bertone, Pinin Farina und anderen Formkünstlern von Weltrang. Goertz selbst bedauerte allerdings, dass der BMW 503 stets ein wenig im Schatten des Roadsters 507 stand, der bis heute allgemein zu den schönsten Zweisitzern der Automobilgeschichte zählt. Les concepts Bertone : Bertone Birusa (2003) - Le Blog Auto

La Birusa est le quatrième concept Bertone faisant des emprunts à BMW, et comme le Pickster en 1998, il n’arbore en fait pas le logo de la marque allemande. Il se contente d’évoquer le design de BMW via le dessin de sa calandre, repositionnée en partie basse pour mettre en valeur les phares à LED (Valeo). Le reste du style de ce coupé n’a guère de liens avec BMW, surtout en pleine ère Bangle, et on fera plus aisément le lien avec d’autres réalisations historiques de Bertone comme le pli de caisse qui sépare les vitrages latéraux en deux parties,... Origines bavaroises aussi pour la partie mécanique, puisque le châssis est celui de la Z8, mais doté d’un empattement allongé de 345 mm, pour une longueur identique de 4m40. Le V8 4. 9 de 400 ch est conservé à l’identique. Ce qui est kitsch n’est pas la forme en elle-même (le style simple et lisse de la carrosserie est bien), mais c’est tout un tas de détails qui font déjà dépassés alors qu’ils n’ont que 12 ans. Mais surtout le top du kitsch c’est le segway dans le coffre. je trouve que le style reste intéressant, mais daté (pas négativement), dans le sens que ca fait voiture du future vu par un film du début des années.
