A mature luxury sedan with some annoying electronics. ASSOCIATE EDITOR GRAHAM KOZAK: I tend to forget about the S6/A6. If we take the A4 to be the cornerstone of the Audi lineup, with the A3 as the sorta-intriguing newcomer, the A5 as the two-door style statement, the A7 as the four-door style... I really won’t call it a sport-sedan, because its motor isn’t loud enough and it won’t shake your teeth out if you put the suspension in “dynamic” mode. But, much like our long-term Audi S7 , it’s still a lot of fun to whip this thing down the road. As for delivery of the car’s ample power -- well, there’s still that split-second dual-clutch lag on takeoff, which sport mode can’t really mitigate since it’s a low-rpm problem. You get used to it, as we did on the long-term S7, but it’s something to note and does make me wonder about Audi’s strategy of giving the S models the dual-clutch when the automatic is good enough for the RS 7. The next rung on Audi’s performance ladder is the S6, a similarly styled sports sedan with larger dimensions and an extra helping of horsepower. Instead of a supercharged V6 this sports sedan is propelled by a 4. 0-liter V8 engine that’s augmented by a duet of turbochargers nestled in the typically wasted space found between the cylinder banks. Still, Audi’s engineering team found ways of cramming even more add-ons into the S6’s engine bay. Aside from forced induction the car’s V8 also features cylinder deactivation to curb excessive consumption, along with direct fuel injection, a feature that helps it deliver a stout 420 hp along with 406 lb-ft of peak torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic makes instantaneous work of gear changes and is unusually refined for a transmission of this type. Source: www.autoguide.com

Audi India launches A3 40 TFSI Premium at Rs 25.50 lakh - Overdrive

Audi has launched the base A3 40 TFSI Premium in India at Rs 25. 50 lakh (ex-Mumbai). On the outside, this new variant will get new 15-spoke Y-design wheels (not seen in the images), electrically adjustable exterior mirrors and halogen lamps. The A3 40 TFSI Premium gets Audi’s music and Bluetooth interface, passive speakers and Audi’s MMI radio. Joe King, head of Audi India said, “The Audi A3 sedan packaged with youthful design, visionary technology and luxurious performance has set new benchmarks in the compact luxury car segment. We are confident that the new features will further enhance the appeal of this compact, sporty, progressive and sophisticated sedan amongst the Audi enthusiasts. The A3 40 TFSI Premium uses the same 1. 8-litre in-line four-cylinder petrol engine mated to Audi’s 7-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission – 0-100kmph time is claimed at 7. 3 seconds.
