Reborn TVR sells out 2017 allocation for new sports car - Autocar

The reborn TVR brand has already sold out its allocation for 2017, with the new company announcing that it has taken 250 deposits in just six weeks. The new company started taking deposits for the planned new sports car four weeks later having faced a high level of demand from the public, despite there not yet being any official pictures or details of the new car. Deposits are still being taken, but John Casey, TVR’s operations director, says that any orders now placed will not be delivered until 2018. Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR, said: “This a heart-warming situation we find ourselves in. We are mindful... Volumes in year one are said to be limited as the company ramps up production, so the intention will be to take more than the 250 orders for 2018. Returning after an absence of nearly 10 years, the new TVR has been designed by engineering guru... It was avant-garde, with an exterior that made me swoon, a cabin that was inventive, and technologies that were innovative … and, then, there was the power that was... So, I wondered, what would the all-new third gen model bring that would retain the TT's heritage, yet propel it to novel wizardry. Redesigned outside and in, the all-new TT has also been endowed with significant updates in technology. Available in a four-seater coupe or two-passenger roadster body, all TTs come Quattro as standard issue. The coupe starts at $42,900 and the roadster at $46,400. it will also be available soon dressed as the more sizzling TTS Quattro coupe that will be priced starting at $51,900 - a roadster will follow later. On sale late summer, the new TT and TTS compete with the Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayman, BMW Z4, Mazda Miata MX-5, and the Mercedes-Benz SLK , among others.
