Monterey auctions see $393 million in sales -- the first decline since 2009 - Autoweek

With no superstar cars in the spotlight, year-over-year results down slightly. In fact, preliminary data courtesy of Hagerty -- which are incomplete as they lack figures from the Rick Cole sale -- show that sales are down $10 million, give or take. There may be a few updates and adjustments ahead in the coming days, but the big picture should remain the same: At $392. 7 million, this year’s sales brought less money than last year’s $402. 6 million total (2014’s data, minus Rick Cole numbers). Average sale price was down ($540,366 in 2014 to $479,557 in 2015) and median sale price was down (approximately $99,000 in 2014 to $96,800 in 2015). More lots were offered in 2015 than in 2014 (1,386 to 1,227), yet fewer sold -- sell-through rate... We’ll note that just one car like the Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for over $38. 1 million last year could have pushed 2015’s totals over the top. despite a very healthy crop of high-dollar cars (see top-10 list below), there really wasn’t one car that stole the show and whipped the enthusiast community (and the wider world) into a frenzy as that 250 GTO did. Singer Vehicle Design, the Los Angeles-based tuning house, is known worldwide for its work on the iconic 911 and revealed its most recent projects at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, at the request of Lord March. The company has now broadened its remit – beyond its exclusive work on 964 911s – to the restoration of Targa and traditional coupé versions. We were invited to a photographic studio in London to take a look and also to chat with Singer boss Rob Dickinson. The former Lotus engineer explained that his initial motivation was to celebrate the “incredible air-cooled era of the 911 with some kind of halo machine – a kind of greatest hits car. The first incarnation of this vision, a 1969 Porsche chassis with a 1979 engine, was restored personally by Dickinson. Dickinson is quick to point out that his firm does not make its own cars. He also says that the work is a tribute to Porsche, a principle that means Singer will always “tread gently” with the brand. The original 964 was fitted with a 3. 6-litre, 222bhp flat six engine, the Singer version is offered with either a Cosworth-tuned 345bhp flat six or a 4. 0-litre flat six, which ups output to.
