That’s not an easy question to answer, but for a direct ancestor, you easily start with Tatra, the Czechoslovakian company that gave us one of the most enduring powertrain layouts in history, and built cars unlike anything that has come before or... Behind Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot, Tatra is the third-oldest automaker in the world, releasing its first car (the Präsident) in 1897. But right from the start, the company (then known as Nesselsdorfer Wagenbau-Fabriksgesellschaft) began doing... The GT moniker is one reserved for Porsche's go-faster 911s, and throughout its long usage there have been some truly standout models. The first - 996 GT3 (1999). Back in 1999, we couldn’t figure out why Porsche didn’t call the first 996 GT3 the ‘RS’. We didn’t know it was being saved up for something else. It wasn’t any lighter than a standard 996, which may also explain Porsche’s reluctance to use the RS badge. While standard 996s seemed somewhat sanitised relative to their air-cooled brethren, the GT3 was still safe but far sharper and more responsive. Today, the first GT3 seems a little conservative, but at the time Porsche wasn’t sure how such a car would be received. Soon there would be no limit to the extent of thefirm’s ambitions for its new GT sub-brand. Porsche 996 GT3. 0-62mph 4. 5sec. Three generations of the Porsche 911 GT3 tested. The worst - 996 GT2 (2001). While at work behind The Pub bar inside the Brothers 4 in Falmouth Heights, Leonard watched the Munich Olympics on TV. One event in particular — the marathon — sparked great interest. His reverence for the Boston Marathon reached pious levels every Patriots Day during his bartending shifts at the Eliot Lounge, a runners’ haven of libation inside the Eliot Hotel near the final mile of the Boston course. So when Leonard stopped in his tracks to watch ABC-TV’s Jim McKay, Chris Schenkel, and Erich Segal call the marquee Olympic 26. 2-miler, so, too, did the beer taps. “I refused to serve anybody when Frank Shorter came into the stadium. By the time Shorter finished in a gold medal-winning 2:12:19. 8, enough time had passed for Leonard to begin to formulate a seemingly irrational idea.
