Nissan GT-R, Infiniti EX, FX Recalled For Defective Steering Column - The Car Connection

"Due to a supplier manufacturing issue, the steering column outer tube on some of the potentially affected vehicles may have been manufactured out of specification (out-of-round). In rare instances, this stress may cause the bearing retainer to fracture and lead to excessive play in the steering wheel. "In some extreme cases where excessive force is applied axially to pull the steering wheel towards the driver, the column may separate and lead to loss of steering, potentially causing loss of vehicle control. 2008 Infiniti EX35 vehicles built between June 29, 2007 and April 25, 2008 2009 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles built between October 31, 2007 and April 16, 2008 2009 Nissan GT-R vehicles built between March 14, 2007 and April 25, 2008 All told,. When it does, though, owners will be able to take their vehicles to the appropriate Nissan or Infiniti dealer for repairs. Nissan Issues Recall for 2009 GT-R and Infiniti Crossovers - Torque News

Nissan is recalling the steering columns on some of its higher-end, all-wheel drive models from 2009 after internal investigations found the issue and reported it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall affects about 16,973 vehicles in the United States and repairs will be undertaken at Nissan dealerships free of charge for vehicle owners. The problem affects 2009 GT-R models made between March 14, 2007 and April 25, 2008 and the 2008 Infiniti EX35 and 2008-09 FX35 and FX45 crossovers. The fix is to replace the steering shaft on the crossovers and to replace the entire column on the GT-R. "Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering shaft on the Infiniti EX35, FX35, and FX45 vehicles, and will replace the steering column assembly on the Nissan GT-R vehicles, free of charge. Infiniti owners may contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan owners may contact the GT-R hotline at 1-866-668-1487. ".
