” And so we’re somewhat skeptical when Nissan says that the car unveiled at the 2015 Chicago auto show , the Nissan 370Z NISMO Roadster concept, is just a “one-off design study created to gauge market interest in the ultimate factory Z Roadster. Whether you describe the 370Z NISMO Roadster as a topless variant of the 370Z NISMO coupe or a NISMO-fied version of the 370Z convertible, you’re absolutely correct. Like the NISMO coupe, the roadster is roughly three inches longer than the non-NISMO version and features a racy front fascia with LED running lamps and black headlight bezels, red stripes along the lower body, and red trim on the mirror covers. The NISMO-ified interior features black Recaro seats with off-white suede inserts and red contrast stitching. We’d be surprised to see the light-colored inserts make it to production—but wouldn’t be upset if they do. More likely, the current coupe’s red-and-black treatment would be offered. Under the roadster’s skin are most of the same chassis and powertrain modifications found in the NISMO Z coupe, including a retuned suspension, a strut-tower brace, 19-inch forged Rays wheels wrapped with 245/40 front and 285/35 rear Bridgestone... With 350 hp—18 more than the Z—it might not be faster, but it looks it. A popularly priced two-seat GT with six-cylinders, a long hood, a short deck, a fastback roofline, and a rear hatch aptly describes both 2016 and 1970 models. Over that time, the Z-car’s contemporaries have moved on. Classmates from the 1970s and 1980s such as the Toyota Supra and the Mazda RX-7 scabbarded their samurai swords, and the Porsche 944/968 and Alfa Romeo GTV-6 ascended to autobahn heaven... Even at Nissan, the Z doesn’t bathe in the spotlight as it once did. In a sense, driving the 2016 Nissan 370Z is like bumping into an old friend from the neighborhood. 7-liter VQ37VHR six shared with the Infiniti Q50 and Q70 is very flexible and has ample torque over a wide rpm range. Not everyone loved the Nissan 370Z Nismo when it landed in 2013. Maybe Nismo took that to heart, because in the intervening year or so it’s rolled it back into the workshop, done some tinkering and sent it back out into the big wide world armed... That means the 2015 model year Zed Nismo gets altered damper rates for a more forgiving ride, tighter-hugging seats and improved sound deadening so you get less of an ear-bashing on the motorway. Nissan 370Z Nimso 2015 model year: a new look The styling’s changed too, with a jagged new nose and a smaller ducktail rear spoiler joined by shinier wheels and the inevitable addition of daytime running lights. With its droopsnout nose, GT-racer rear wing and droolworthy 19-inch RAYS alloys, the original Nismo 370 looked as if it had been plucked straight out of an underground night race meet in Tokyo, which if you have any kind of susceptibility to that... There’s a more prosaic purpose behind the new look, anyway – Nismo says the stubbier tail spoiler and new front splitter work together to create meaningful downforce at speed and distribute it more evenly front to rear, for a more planted stance. There’s a secondary motive behind that change as, in conjunction with different carpets and rear wheelarch liners, the reconfigured dampers help to cut road noise, something that’s always been one of the 370Z’s standout entries in a sizeable...
