1994 Jeep Wrangler - Big Mini - Four Wheeler Network

Editor Trasborg likes to claim that this is the Jeep that started it all. Then again, he also claims that, unbeknownst to his boss, this is the Jeep that caused the big move out of the old building. Starting its life with Trasborg as a wreck (“Big Mini, Part 1,” April ’13) and progressing to the beast that it is now, Big Mini is an interesting vehicle to say the least. This build began with wanting to fit 40-inch tires on a stock-height Jeep Wrangler YJ (“No Lift Wrangler, Part 1,” July ’08 and “No Lift Wrangler, Part 2,” Sept. The police-spec LT-1 would have no trouble with those big tires or any of the terrain Big Mini might find itself on. Look to “Parking Garage Motor Swap” (Sept. Because of the condition of the factory body mounts (they were hammered), Trasborg installed a 1-inch Daystar body lift. Considering the size of the tires he wanted to fit to Big Mini, this wasn’t nearly enough lift. Suspension was another big part of it. In “Big Mini, Part 3” (June ’13), Trasborg began getting the suspension worked out. Rancho Suspension springs and shocks, combined with GenRight Off Road’s brackets and shock hoops, came together to form a suspension package that would help Big Mini clear those big tires, while still keeping the ride height nice and low. And only a true “Jurassic Park” fan would understand why West keeps a can of Barbasol on the dashboard. West finished the vehicle June 12, just in time to drive the Jeep to Midway Drive-In in Sterling for the opening night of “Jurassic World. Although he keeps the vehicle out of town for security purposes, you can catch West out and about in DeKalb on occasion. Take a picture of it if you want – he’s used to it. (And yes, if you’re lucky, he’ll deliver your Papa John’s pizza in the Jeep. Daily Chronicle reporter Adam Poulisse took a summertime drive with West in the Jurassic Park Jeep, and asked him about his project. 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ - Big Mini: Part 5 - Four Wheeler Magazine

We got the Jeep to flex almost 24 inches in the driveway, and decided to notch the frame to clear the high-steer drag link. That gave us the clearance for the over-the-knuckle mount and the super-high drag link. This build was supposed to be a month-by-month series, but many of you probably noticed there was no installation last month. Now that the flames have been tamed and the parts started showing up again, we were able to get back on the project. But now that we’ve got most of the major components in the Jeep and the lion’s share of the welding and grinding done, we are able to run fluid lines. The worst thing you can do is run hoses right past where you need to weld a shock tower on—so we held off until now. In this installation of Big Mini, we fix some things we didn’t like in the brake system and button it up. We mount coolers for the transmission, power steering, and engine oil, and string up those hoses. And, we’ll share the routing of our hydroboosted, cooled, and rammed power steering system. We started up at the top by tossing the factory proportioning valve in favor of a Wilwood Combination Proportioning Valve (PN 260-11179).
