It’s also one of the most intense sports cars you can buy at any price. Bite-sized and featherweight, the Exige S 260 Sport features a supercharged 257-hp version out back of Toyota’s 1. 8-liter four-pot, and with no rear window, one-piece racing seats, and door sills as wide as the Great Plains, it is blatantly... Those with back problems will have a horrendous time getting inside, and those same problems will only be made worse after being jostled around for a few miles. But honestly, comfort is soooo not the point of this limited-run Exige. Unfortunately, the track is the only place we didn’t get to take the S 260 Sport during its four-day stay with us in Los Angeles. We did, however, burn through two tanks of fuel (it has only a nine-gallon tank) taking it to the grocery store, Laundromat, and gym and on several high-octane blasts up and down Mulholland Drive—you know, all the stuff single guys do in L. A. We... For passersby—who are barely visible out the mail-slot windows—and for our hapless passengers—who sort of knew what to expect by looking at it but were nonetheless rendered stupid by the violence with which this car tears up the street—the S 260... Lotus Exige S Automatic 2015 Review. Like Kentucky Fried Chicken, the Lotus Exige S adheres to a classic recipe that hasn't changed in decades. The inexorable passing of time has brought many great things into our lives – including smartphone stoop and Kevin Spacey retinal burn – but somehow Lotus sports cars have bucked the trend. The boutique UK manufacturer’s cars are a constant reminder that progress isn't always, well, a good thing. It doesn’t matter whether this adherence to the good old days of car development is by design or necessity, because truth be told, an ageing tub, a lack of power steering and an outdated Toyota powerplant conspire to make the Lotus Exige S a... Granted, the latest, UK-built Exige S makes a small concession to the demands of the masses – a six-speed automatic gearbox – but even with a self-shifting cog-swapper this featherweight coupe remains an instinctive and engaging sports car. Hunkering down into the un-adjustable, unyielding bucket seats of the go-fast Lotus is no mean feat – the sills are crazy wide and it's lower than a petty thief making off with your kids' bike and helmet. And since people with money now have less money than before we decided to review the Lotus Exige S 240, the car for supercar shoppers on a budget. Obviously, there are also moments of stunned amazement, because this is a truly uncompromised sports car, and extended periods of low-level irritation, occasionally verging on terror, because this is one godawful car in traffic and around town. You don't really know oversteer or understeer or polar moments of inertia or curb appeal or sex appeal, and you don't yet care. You just know that cars should just skim down the road as fast as possible. When you're seven, the only cars you ever think of are race cars. But evidently so is Lotus, where all their cars are "race cars for the street," and none more so than the Exige S 240. It has the stiff suspension, the bare-bones interior with thinly-padded buckets, the unpowered steering done through a thick... And it's all propelled by a supercharged and intercooled Yamaha-engineered Toyota motor that screams in your ear all day and takes up all your rear visibility, making the challenge of daily driving far too real at times. But bombing the Exige through Brooklyn traffic, while no one's idea of a good time in any car, was not as bad. Source: jalopnik.com
