Comme plusieurs personnes appellent une boisson gazeuse un « Coke », de nombreux conducteurs disent rouler en « Jeep » même s’ils possèdent un Subaru Forester depuis des années. Sans trop entrer dans la riche histoire de la compagnie, on peut dire que plusieurs modèles ont laissé leur trace au cours des 7 dernières décennies et plus. Il y a eu des variantes et des éditions spéciales à profusion – certaines plus populaires que d’autres – et toutes ont contribué à développer le culte de la marque Jeep. L’engouement pour les Jeep est colossal et le potentiel de commercialisation à la grandeur de la planète l’est tout autant. Contrairement à MINI qui semble diluer sa gamme de produits à vue d’œil, Jeep pourrait probablement doubler le nombre de ses modèles (de 6 à 12) et quand même enregistrer des profits. Le retour du Grand Wagoneer n’est qu’un exemple : je parie que des milliers de gens sont prêts à dépenser plus de 70 000 $ pour un gros Jeep de luxe. Dans mon esprit et celui de plusieurs autres personnes, Jeep a plus de cachet que bien des marques soi-disant de luxe. Imaginez un 4x4 avec un autocollant de Willys dans le coin du parebrise qui viendrait rivaliser avec un Cadillac Escalade de près de 100 000 $. Si j’en avais les moyens, je l’achèterais.
