“It was named after Henry Ford’s son, Edsel, who died when he was 49 or 50 years old. He was really a driving force behind Ford and saved them back in the ’30s. He and his daddy didn’t get along too good. “He had cars built for him in the early ’30s, aluminum-bodied cars, specifically built for himself. “The Edsel was a cool car. I always thought it was pretty cool-looking but it was a flop. AIKEN: Bob Ennis : “Since it was only made for three years – 1958-60 – I have a good chance of being right on the year. I am sure it is not a 1959. The recession in 1958, the introductory year, did more to hurt the Edsel than its styling. “People hated it or loved it. I for one thought it looked better than a lot of other cars of that time period. You have so many knowledgeable readers that they will educate us. ”. Gary Engen: “Like last week’s contest, it’s another 1958 Ford Motor Co. product. This time you pictured a 1958 Edsel, the first year for the model that was only sold for a few years. The taillights made it easy to identify but a front view of the distinctively shaped grill would have really have made it a dead giveaway.
