Memorial services planned for Van Zandt County boy hit by car - KSLA-TV

Memorial services are being planned for 12-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a car while crossing the street Friday night. According to DPS Trooper Jean Dark, the crash occurred at approximately 8:23 p. m. Friday in Van Zandt County, around two miles north of Canton, on Highway 19. . A preliminary investigation shows a 2012 Ford Flex was driving southbound down... His body was taken to Eubanks Funeral Home in Canton. Fruitvale Independent School District, where Phillips was a student, will host a candlelight vigil in front of the Hallie Randall Elementary School building at 8 p. m. Tuesday. Nissan Murano, Ford Flex get top safety ratings - The Detroit News

Washington — A group that prods automakers to build safer vehicles said Tuesday that two new 2015 mid-size SUVs won top honors in stringent front crash-test ratings, while others — including three made by Fiat Chrysler NV — fared more poorly. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said that among seven new models tested, the Nissan Murano earned a good rating and the Ford Flex got an acceptable rating in a tougher crash test in place since 2012. Both qualified for Top Safety Pick... IIHS Chief Research Officer David Zuby said the small-overlap crash test — which mirrors what happens when the front corner of a vehicle strikes another vehicle or an object such as a utility pole — presented a major challenge for manufacturers... The Jeep Wrangler four-door model received a good small-overlap rating. The vehicle also lacks a fixed roof, so it can't provide good protection in rollover crashes, the insurance industry funded group said. Aside from the Wrangler, three other Fiat Chrysler SUVs were tested for small overlap protection and didn't fare well. The Flex is as close to an old-school station wagon as it gets these days—and that’s not a bad thing. The base V-6 makes 287 hp, while a twin-turbo EcoBoost version makes 365. A six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive are standard. Instrumented Test – 2013 Ford Flex Limited AWD EcoBoost An entertaining subtext in the ongoing saga of the automobile is the phenomenon of a box with wheels that can dust at least two-thirds of the traffic mix at any given stoplight. In the case of the EcoBoost Ford Flex , two-thirds might be conservative. Yet Ford has mined more horsepower from both of the Flex’s 3. 5-liter V-6 engines for 2013. With variable cam timing on both camshafts, the naturally aspirated version, which really needed some help, goes from 262 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque to 287... The optional turbocharged EcoBoost engine examined here, which was already pretty stout, received 10 more hp for a total of 365. Torque—350 lb-ft at 5500 rpm—from the turbo engine is unchanged. Passing times are impressive, too: 30 to 50 mph in 2. 8 seconds, 50 to 70 in 4. The twin-turbo V-6 generates these numbers despite downhill gearing and substantial mass: 4909 pounds in the case of our test vehicle, which included all-wheel drive...
