AIDS foundation exec. to volunteer: 'Up yours' - KSAT San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Jack Downey, interim executive director of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, was caught on camera Wednesday telling a volunteer, "up yours. Downey uttered the words during a heated confrontation with Anthony Medrano, whose cousin died at the SAAF residence on Grayson Street last year. "You can do all the crap you want, you can try and destroy SAAF," Downey said. My cousin died here at SAAF," said Medrano. Medrano asked Downey if he didn't care about his cousin dying at SAAF. Downey answered, "I care. Since Downey was hired Medrano, former board members, nurses, and doctors who tend to the patients have been outspoken in his disapproval of some of Downey's decisions. He said the confrontation is indicative of Downey's lack of leadership. The outburst interrupted an interview with Rogelio Saucedo, a patient who has lived at SAAF for 15 years. He is just one of several long-term patients who fear they could be moved to nursing homes under Downey's leadership. Downey took over in early May when former executive director David Ewell was suddenly fired. Several SAAF board members resigned before and after the decision was made.
