Every major motorsport series – from Formula 1 to V8 Supercars – craves female drivers good enough to compete with men, but few teams are willing to take the risk. Successful female drivers would attract new fans, new sponsors and alleviate motor sport's image as a testosterone-dominated endeavour. Far fewer young girls take up racing and, consequently, the talent pool of fast femmes is tiny by comparison with the plethora of teenage boys who scale the ladder from karts to junior car racing. There is no institutional obstruction to female drivers – in fact, motor racing is one of the few sports in which there is no segregation between men and women. There is also the debate about whether the best women drivers are physically and mentally strong enough to beat the main men in the most demanding and ruthless disciplines - F1, IndyCars, NASCAR and V8 Supercars. It is a dangerous argument, but the fact remains that while many women have tried, only one has succeeded in being regarded as "one of the boys" in major league racing on an on-going basis. Simona de Silvestro and Renee Gracie will pilot a fifth Ford Falcon for Prodrive Racing Australia as a wildcard entry. Swiss racer Simona de Silvestro is set to team up with Renee Gracie in an all-female wildcard entry for this year's annual running of the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama. De Silvestro, 26, comes from an open-wheel background with 68 IndyCar starts, two in Formula E and a tenure as an 'affiliated driver' with the Sauber Formula 1 squad, testing for the team during the 2014 season. They will compete as a third Ford FG X Falcon for Prodrive Racing Australia, which currently fields two cars on a regular basis with by Mark Winterbottom (championship leader) and Chaz Mostert (reigning Bathurst 1000 winner). GM counts on the GMC truck brand to deliver many of its pickup customers, so the 2016 model year Sierra had a set of enhancements to make it competitive against the crop of major rivals from Ford and Ram. There were no modifications under the hood, where the model got the same 4. 3-liter V6 with 285 bhp & 305 lb-ft, the 5. 3-liter V8 churning 355 bhp & 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) and the flagship 6. 2-liter V8 that has 420 bhp & 460 lb-ft. Certain Double Cab and Crew Cab versions will have the Active Steering Assist power steering for more precise and easy steering when hauling or trailering. They also gain new electronic controls that take into account the truck’s loading state for enhanced road handling and stability. Starting with the first quarter of next year, clients may order the new Gooseneck/5th Wheel Trailering Prep Package. On the comfort side, there’s the GMC IntelliLink system making use of a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen thanks to the inproved processor and the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.
