“Pixels” may not be devouring the power pellet profits that were expected, but voice actor and musician Jerry Buckner has had “Pac-Man Fever” since the ‘80s. As half of the Buckner & Garcia songwriting duo, one of Buckner’s biggest claims to fame... Coinciding with the release of “Pixels” in theaters, Buckner released a new version of the song called “Pac-Man Fever (Eat Em Up)” last week. “For the 25th anniversary of Pac-Man, we decided we wanted to do an updated version of ‘Pac-Man Fever,’” he says. “So we went in and re-recorded it. Everything is pretty much new except we used the original vocal track and there are a few instruments from the original. Buckner played in various bands (sometimes even performing with Rick Hinkle, who still performs with his wife Susan Bennett, the original voice of Siri ) and was writing commercial jingles when “Pac-Man Fever” took off. Due to the song’s success, Buckner got to know several people in the radio industry, which segued into an 18-year career in Atlanta radio (ironic considering that he also co-wrote the theme song to ‘80s sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati”). “After the success of ‘Pac-Man Fever,’ I had become friends with a lot of radio people and eased into it,” he says.
