Bush, carefully crafted a legal rationale enabling what it called “enhanced interrogation techniques,” which is no more than a euphemism for torture. The only high-level person sent to prison over torture was John Kiriakou — not for conducting torture, but for exposing it, as a whistleblower. The legal facade behind which these heinous acts were conducted relied heavily on the cooperation of professional psychologists, who trained and advised the interrogators and supervised the progress of the “breaking” of prisoners. This cooperation, in turn, was dependent on an official seal of approval from the American Psychological Association, the largest professional organization of psychologists in the world. In 2006, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association both barred their members from taking part in military interrogations. This month, the APA released a stunning independent report that confirms what whistleblowers and dissident psychologists have maintained for close to a decade, that the APA actively colluded with the U. Judy Petrie: A few words in defense of Milhous - The Union of Grass Valley

A couple weeks ago The Union ran a story about incidents that allegedly occurred at the Milhous Boy’s Ranch. Milhous Children’s Services is one of the largest employers in our area and they have been in business taking in and supporting adolescents for close to 50 years. The administration at Milhous are a group of very dedicated and caring people who truly care about what happens to these kids. I worked at Milhous for 10 years, first as receptionist and I then did all the hiring and maintained employee files and training records. What I observed during my time at Milhous was a very high level of care and concern for these extremely troubled adolescents. All those at Milhous work tirelessly to help these kids succeed. I witnessed many more staff being assaulted and injured than kids. The slightest suggestion of misconduct by staff toward kids was addressed immediately. If the employee was in over their heads and not suited for the job they were let go. Very few people are able to work with these kids it is just plain difficult and impossible for some. These are for the most part large, angry, troubled kids with one last chance to overcome dysfunction, disorders, chemical imbalances and the results of poor and often abusive. I moved here in 2000, just as the debate over NH2020 was heating up. To this day, rarely a week goes by without editorials and/or comments in The Union regarding the meaning and intent of the U. S. Constitution and how its current interpretation... It is in this vein that it is important to keep in mind that the U. S. Constitution was not a divinely inspired document presented in whole to an adoring public. Today’s sometimes vitriolic discussions regarding the meaning and intent of the U. S. Constitution can’t hold a candle to the level of angst displayed when it was presented to the American people. the ratification of this new governing document was no sure thing in 1788. Many of our Founding Fathers, including Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry opposed adoption in the form it was originally presented. It was only by changing much of the intent and meaning of the original document (the document that came out of the Constitutional Convention), that passage was possible. This is certainly something to keep in mind the next time anyone claims to “know” what the original intent and meaning was of our foundational governing document. Source: www.theunion.com
