Steele also inherited some very motivated players from former defensive coordinator John Chavis, a lifelong best friend of Steele’s who is now the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. “They’re extremely competitive. From Chavis’ unit that finished No. 1 in the Southeastern Conference in total defense last year, Steele will have six regular starters returning. Sophomore safety Jamal Adams was a freshman All-American last year who started two games, and the other cornerback will likely be highly recruited sophomore Ed Paris. The sinkhole formed because of rushing water from a broken 30-inch main line, which was installed in the 1960s. “It’s an emotional thing for everybody,” said Mr. Baumgart, 57, who built the garage next to his home about six years ago. No one was injured during the incident, but the home of one of his neighbors was knocked off its foundation. The break was reported shortly before 9 a. m. in the 2500 block of Homehurst Avenue at Kingwood Street, according to Allegheny County emergency officials. Pennsylvania American Water Co. officials said 10 homes were damaged and about 50 customers lost water service, with others in the South Hills area of the city experiencing low water pressure.
