BATON ROUGE – New LSU defensive coordinator Kevin Steele at times saw some of the best defensive talent in college football at Alabama in 2013 and ’14, Clemson from 2009-11, Florida State from 2003-06 and Nebraska from 1989-94. But he views the... “This group is very, very talented. Not as deep as some I’ve been with, but very talented,” he said during LSU’s annual Media Day of team-wide interviews Sunday afternoon. “I know this: This is a very fast group of guys — very fast group of guys. Steele also inherited some very motivated players from former defensive coordinator John Chavis, a lifelong best friend of Steele’s who is now the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. “They’re extremely competitive. From Chavis’ unit that finished No. 1 in the Southeastern Conference in total defense last year, Steele will have six regular starters returning. Sophomore safety Jamal Adams was a freshman All-American last year who started two games, and the other cornerback will likely be highly recruited sophomore Ed Paris. The other four returning regular starters will be sophomore defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, junior defensive tackle Christian LaCouture, senior outside linebacker Lamar Louis of Breaux Bridge and junior middle linebacker Kendell Beckwith.
