But the subject of this test is the 428i xDrive, the entry-level version with all-wheel drive. even with an extra 150 or so pounds of xDrive gear, the 428i banged off a solid 5. 5-second zero-to-60-mph time, only a few tenths behind the last rear-drive 435i we tested. And EPA city/highway ratings of 22/33 mpg make it the thrifty choice among AWD 4-series coupes, 2- to 3-mpg less thirsty than the 435i’s turbo six. We’ve had good things to say about the 4-series in general and this four-cylinder turbo in recent tests of the rear-drive 428i , the 428i Gran Coupe , and the 328i xDrive Sport Wagon. Is the 428i xDrive a luxury coupe or a performance coupe. But the all-season Pirelli Cinturato P7s that would otherwise not seem out of place on an all-wheel-drive car don’t help here. The 428i xDrive needed 177 feet to stop from 70 mph, only a foot less than that required by a recently tested, all-season-shod Toyota Camry XSE. The brakes suffered un-BMW-like moderate fade, too. As BMW and its fans have matured together, the challenge has been to retain the brand's signature driving dynamics - strong acceleration, steering that's direct and responsive, braking that's crisp, and a suspension that's calibrated to provide... The 4 Series Gran Coupe is BMW's statement that "sensible" and "sexy" aren't mutually exclusive. It takes the 4 Series Coupe - itself a wider, stretched evolution of the 3 Series - and adds two rear doors and a hatch. This is where BMW's 4 Series team and exterior designer Won Kyu Kang scored their packaging coup: You'd be hard-pressed to tell the long, low-slung Gran Coupe from its 4 Series Coupe sibling. While the two-door's and four-door's length, width, wheelbase and front/rear track specifications are identical. the Gran Coupe's trunk offers 17 cu. -ft. , which can be easily and efficiently loaded thanks to the powered rear hatch and flat floor. The 428i Gran Coupe seats five passengers, but a tiny middle seat and large floor hump means it really fits four. A lack of legroom and really deep Latch anchors complicated car-seat installation. How many car seats fit in the second row. More Car Seat Checks. The anchors sit very deep in the seat bight, so connecting to them was a challenge, especially with our rear-facing seats. We had to move the front passenger seat fairly far forward to fit the infant car seat. Although we didn't have to move the front passenger seat forward to accommodate the rear-facing convertible, it was difficult to install the seat because of the deeply set Latch anchors. The heavily bolstered seats caused our booster to sit at an angle and the seat-belt buckles are recessed, so children might have trouble grasping them.
