Between new-engine break-in and seasonally rising temperatures, we expect a dramatic improvement in our observed fuel economy in the coming months. When spec'ing out our Sierra, we showed little restraint, reaching for the very top model offered: a Denali Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6. 5-foot bed and chromed dub-deuce (22-inch, $2295) wheels. Driven sensibly on snow and ice, it has yet to put a wheel wrong, or to slip or slide an inch, while the IntelliLink telematics system has kept us apprised of the latest travel advisories via the big, bright 8-inch color touch screen. Sometime after temperatures stabilize at short-sleeve levels, we'll conduct our regular battery of performance tests and we might also try running several tanks of E85 through our flex-fueler's digestive tract to see how it affects the truck's... And maybe if we're really lucky, we'll get to take it to the Sierras—or to Denali. Since there(coincidentally)really is no bonus to considering this over a similarly equipped Silverado, the only thing upscale about the Denali is the giant amount of money GMC charges for it. Make no mistake, both trucks can be equipped like any luxury sedan, but GMC's Sierra has always held sway with more glitz and glamour?. The new 2014 pickup touts a mighty chrome grille that challenges the likes of the Dodge Ram pickup in size and swagger. The Sierra is quiet and comfy inside and the tested Crew Cab SLT, just one level down from the line-topping Denali, includes plenty of luxury touches, starting with a leather interior, and adding perks like a heated steering wheel and a... This is the long-bed model with a 61/2-foot bed as opposed to the shorter 53/4-foot bed. Since this is the 4-wheel-drive model, the difference is about $400, the tested dark metallic gray truck starting at $43,610. Luxury doesn't come cheap. This one adds heated and cooled front seats for $650, leather front seats for $325 and three other packages with such items as front and rear park assist, a lane departure warning system, forward collision alert and vibrating safety alert seat,... Overall this 4-wheel-drive crew cab, which is built in Mexico, hits $49,045. That's not unusually high for a well-equipped pickup that seats four or five adults. The Sierra doesn't disappoint. GMC says the new 2015 Sierra Carbon Edition will be offered in three different versions to allow customers more choices. Sierra Carbon 22 Edition – offered on both Sierra SLE double and crew-cab trucks. The exterior will be further upgraded with: four-inch black tubular side assist steps, unique 22-inch black alloy wheels, fog lamps. Sierra Carbon 20 Edition – offered only on the Sierra SLE double cab uses the same grille and graphics, but rides on 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Standard Sierra Carbon Edition – this package will have all the graphics and will simply ride on the standard wheels (17 or 18). Each of these packages are available on 2WD or 4WD models and pricing reflects the standard 4. 3L EcoTec3 V6 engines... Pricing starts at $33,075 for the base 2015 Sierra Carbon Edition.
